Someone said they re-spawn too. In over 700 hours in my game, none of them have ever re-spawned.

I originally said they re-spawn, and they do. Here's a pic of 2 butterfly's in a jar, http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh611/Trace9569/HPIM1430.jpg. I am not sure exactly when this character got the 1st one, sometime between lvl 8 - 11, I think.... but she's lvl29 now with 101.59 hr's. I just went and got the 2nd , this char is not the one I mentioned that had three, that char I deleted about a month ago.

Wiki say's they may re-spawn. It didn't give a re-spawn time.

Hmmmm. Interesting. I guess it's just like the rest of this messed up game. Some things work for some and for others they don't.

I'm going to take a guess and say that because it's an open air shack, if you get to close to it you re-set the re-spawn time. This char has not been back that way since the first round trip from Riverwood to Iverstead. ( answering the Greybeard's summons)

I may just do the wait...save, then FT to the shack to see how long it really take's..then just go back to that save and lengthen the time. I'm curious now.

Ok, I got my answer...15 day's. I got the 2nd on the 24th of Suns Dusk and the third on the 10 th of Evening Star. http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh611/Trace9569/HPIM1431.jpg That's a pic of all 3. I did try 72 hr's, 96 hr's then 15 (16) day's... and I was waiting outside on the Deck at Honeyside. It's possible it's less time, but I don't have that much patience.

You can get all of them easily if you know where they are. They don't have anything to do with a quest really. I never went out looking for them. I just happened to stumble upon them. I can't remember where they all are off hand but I know one is in the lighthouse up near Windhelm or Winterhold. Another is in the basemant of one of the Orc strongholds (trap door in the floor). There are only 5 of them.
Anyway, they can all be reached at any time.

I just got the tourch bug... did the quest that start's in their. ( because I wanted to ) I may "chase" down the other's, just because.

Yes they do fall where you drop them, then you pick them up and put them where you want them. The jar's really don't like bein rightside up, but otherwise are not really that hard to place.

I only know how on 360, ps3 may be similar, but press "A" button ( don't tap ), if it's still there, just lift it to where you want it. Then press "A" again. ( make sure not to hold or press twice )

Like I said getting them in the up-right position is harder than picking them up. You may have to do it more than once as thing's like to jump off of where you put them. My Grey Fox bust is a constant pick-up and put back. "A" is the take button, so I'm sure ps3 is probably the same ( different button). I have no clue on pc...but think maybe the "E"??? key?

I think that's about right, considering the timing on my latest toon.... It was a couple weeks game-time before I decided to rest there before going on to Riften - and gee, there was another butterfly in a jar!

I just checked Alchemist's Shack and the Butterfly was there. I also checked Goldenglow, but the Bee hadn't respawned (I thought it had been 15 days, but maybe not) - if we pass through a zone by Fast Traveling does that count as entering the cell? I know I haven't away from Frostflow long enough yet. :P

I found something interesting when messing around with console commands. a box popped up on the screen that said "you placed the jar, you get a prize!" but I am unsure if it has anything to do with the bug jars.
