BUG(?):Potion of Invisibility does not work?

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 4:30 am

In the Loud and Clear quest, Aringoth's guards detect and attack even after consuming potion of invisibility and sneaking and not doing anything that would break invisibility. WTF???

It makes you invisible, not undetectable.

And ... how it works in practice?

Do you have a low sneak skill? Maybe your making to much noise while sneaking.

Sneak lvl40 + Movarth's Boots (Light Armor) 15% + Necklace of Minor Sneaking 15%. But it doesn't matter. I should not sneak at all if I consume potion of invisibility and do not do hostile actions or anything like that. Here, the guard detected me while invisible, alerted the others and in a minute I was swarmed. What is the meaning of being invisible if you are detectable just the same?

If you run around in front of an enemy's face then of course they're going to detect you, regardless of whether you're invisible or not. It's supposed to make sneaking easier, not unnecessary.

Of course, I did not run in front of the guards' noses. The game detects you by the sound of your shoes and ignores invisibility. That is why there is a muffle spell. Invisibility, simply, does not work.

Well, if you are invisible but still make noise, people are gonna react to it. But it is kinda silly that they suddenly just know you are there. Would be a lot better if they would start a search for you instead.

i think you should stay invisible while opening doors, chests, picking locks etc as long as the duration of the potion is, right now invisible potions r nxt to worthless

The same happend whit my invisibility spell.
If they saw you before using your potion or casting your spell, the invisibility does'nt work.

Sorry man, but i think that being invisible mean that people around you can only hear sound you are making, but can't see you.
So, tell me how an archer can touch me whit is arrow when being invisible.

Invisibility potions are like portable shadows. Great to hide in, but works far better when added with the "muffle" effect active (from either equipement or a spell).

I find that the potion works pretty well. Now I don't know if THIS is a bug but enemy tend to detect me alot easier outdoors(even at night) than well lit indoors areas. But drinking an invisibility potion allows me to just sneak up to them even if they are looking straight at me and take them out.

And yes, muffle is pretty much a must for invisibility to work properly since the potion does nothing about sound.

Well I needed to pass a Giant, tried sneaking - nope he saw me as I had no option but to go in front of him.

Tried again after taking a potion of invisibility - got past with no problem.

It was night time and the potion seems to work, maybe a patch could add a potion of Godlike to cover all character flaws. ;)

I've used invisibility potions during that same section without any problems as long as I didn't run into anything or make any noise. I found that I had to sneak very slowly with the potion active or they could still hear my armor and detect me.

This is why you should also use a potion that muffles you or the sneak perk.

So, a potion of invisibility simply decreases detection rate? A person must still have high level of sneaking + muffle + whatnot, and if you are invisible but a guard hears noise from your boots, he charges directly at invisible you and hits you precisely as if you are fully visible. That's just not good enough, I think. It was called a Potion of Minor Chameleon in Morrowind and Oblivion. A guard should not be able to hit you (only by mistake), if you are invisible. It is not the case here.

It seems to me like invisibility is just the new chameleon(sp?). Its not as effective as it was in oblivion or morrowind.

I used muffle and Invisible together, I wasn't seen but followed by the store owner. Was not a problem in Oblivion, being a mage and stealth character in Skyrim is either hard or (not possible-due to my experience).

When your sneaking try using the muffle spell from a distance so the guards don't hear it then try sneaking by. Even with a lvl.40 sneak they can still hear you unless you muffle your movements.
