Bug on Thieves Guild Quest? a

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:45 am

I'm in one of the final stages of the Thieves Guild quest where we are hunting Mercer in the Dwemer ruin. When I open the door to the room with the huge statue (missing the eyes) I hear the dialogue for a few lines, but then it stops after Mercer says "When will you learn".

After that, the game just semi-freezes. I can move around, but can't pull up menus or interact with anything. The game just stops at that point and I'm stuck.

Any advice?

Thanks!

I've tried using some console commands, but to no avail.

From what I gather online, the best thing to do is to reload a save and be sure to trigger the Mercer scene earlier in the dungeon. Sadly, my earlier save is a few levels back. Seeing as I've level 52, this is a significant ways back.

Any help?

Thanks!

Sorry. No advice here. A similar thing happened to me with the MQ where the only fix was to go back several levels and reload the Thalmor Embassy mission. I was in almost the exact same situation, with my character being around level 51 or 52; but the reload would have taken me back to 45 or so. So that was that. I hope someone finds a solution for you.

Thanks, Bacillus. Judging from what I've seen while searching for a fix, you and I aren't the only one's who've been shafted by this.

So you just never finished the quest?

I think I'll have to reload from a few levels back.. ugh.

Damn. Because of stuff like this I won't turn my auto-saves off. I finally turned them off for "travel" because it auto-saved too much every time I'd run in and out of Breezehome while trying to Smith, but I left it on for the 'every 15 mins' when I enter the menus.

I'm guessing you tried "Wait"ing to see if anything would happen. ...or is that affected by the menu issue? Have you tried just walking away from the game and leaving it on? Since the eyes are already missing when you zone in it could be a lag/sync thing.

Hmm I have tried waiting, but only for a min or so. The initial problem is that I can't move (being stuck in a semi-cut scene) unless I console command my way out. There is a console command that will make Mercer appear (so it says) but I haven't had any luck. Perhaps I just need to wait.

The description of the command that I found essentially ports me to where Mercer is in the dungeon--the place where I missed him originally. Then the console targets him and after I go back to the cut scene area (ledge overlooking the statue) he's supposed to "float up". I expected it to happen a lot sooner, but perhaps I'll just wait awhile.

After the console commands, the room starts to shake and I get hopeful, but nothing happens.

I'll try waiting longer.

Thanks!
