ED-E has BoS armor upgrade

I told ED-E and Raul to wait at the pier at Cottonwood Cove while I did some things at The Fort and when I came back, ED-E had a phantom weight of 5. I wasn't really bothered by that so I went to the Blue Paradise Vacation Rentals and when we were fighting Lakelurks, ED-E was using some white laser bullet attack. I'm going to assume that that would have been the weapon upgrade had I sent it to the Followers.
I wonder if that extra 3 lbs. ED-E picked up was the weapon upgrade, and it's mad I upgraded it's armor instead. :toughninja:
Has this happened to anyone else?
