Bugs have completely ruined my roleplaying.

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 8:21 am

So i just finally got into a little bit of roleplaying, and it was going good for a while until i hit a plethora of bugs. Firstly, I wanted to cure my lyanthropy, but the flame wouldn't activate for me. I heard that if you cure Farkas and Vilkas, it'll work. So I went to do a radiant quest from Farkas, but the quest he gave me is to kill the leader of a dungeon I've already cleared, worst yet, the leader is a named Hagraven who won't respawn. Then I tried to do Vilkas' purity quest, but he stops following me when I arrive at the tomb, the quest is grayed out, and apparently I have a follower now. Guess what? The solution to this bug is to do Farkas' purity quest... After a lot of frustration I decide to drop it, and go marry Mjoll. When I tried marrying her, the marriage doesn't initiate and better yet, Mjoll has vanished from the face of Skyrim. This character = screwed. WTH Bethesda?

Save plenty and save often, could have fixed all this.
Loading just before the quest Farkas gave you would get a new quest, can you do that, or is that not an option for you?

Depends on what you consider screwed. I've run into similar bugs, like with Vilkas, but I wouldn't consider it game breaking.

I've never had more than 2 or 3 bugs in all my skyrim time.

Try getting a quest from Aela, then getting one from him.

I didn't mean that the character was broken, just that my goals for him and the setup for my dawnguard playthrough is unreachable now.

I too hit a wall of bugs at one point. Took me 2 weeks to go back far enough that I was able to get past it. For me, the problem was I had advanced the Civil War quest line too far and it was bugging everything. Maybe that is your problem too? That's all I have that might help you. Good luck.

I have already completed the Civil War, as well as the MQ and the companions. I think I can get everything working if I just do things in the right order.

Just checked the UESP and it says thats the best option, saving and reloading. It should give a different location.
It said just reload till you get a cave that isn't cleared. I swear that worked for me in the past.

I am back before Mjoll vanished, and Farkas is giving me a new place after I did a totem and radiant quest for Aela, so maybe I'll end up getting it to work.

Good luck! I hope it works for you this time. On my first character, I ran into so many bugs that it eventually felt like I was walking on eggshells. It's not a very fun way to play a game.

Im afraid that in Skyrim we once more need to revert to Daggerfall style gamekeeping.
Meaning:
Save before you initiate a quest.
Save before you enter a dungeon.
Save before you level up.
Save after you complete a quest.

I'm finding myself more and more convinced that the only answer to my skyrim problems is buying a PC and then getting it on steam.

I can't take this game seriously enough to role-play until Bethesda fixes most of the bugs.
