Bugs You've Come Across

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2011 12:45 am

Hey guys, so far I've heard really great reviews about the game from everyone, and the only people that said it svck are the impatient television hosts. So, I've been thinking, since Fallout is such a huge game, there are so many places to find so many bugs that can really mess up the game. I think it would be really helpful for Bethesda & Obsidian if there were more posts about the many glitches you've come across, and tell what you think can be done to fix them.

A crash on the road between Ranger Station Charlie and Novac on each new game (it doesn't seem to happen twice in the same game, only every first time I walk there - could be related to getting the Black Mountain Radio signal). This is the only one that I've seen more than once. Other bugs/glitches/crashes I've so far witnessed, can be count with my fingers and have appeared as random occurences.

I have no idea how to fix anything related to technical issues in videogames.

My friend had a problem where NCR ranger always attacked him for no reason. He has a neutral reputation with NCR and legion, hated by powder ganger. He wear the pre-war suit (I do not remember exactly what), and has ed-e as a companion. Even when he uses the NCR armor, he was still attacked by ranger.
I've been looking for the answer using search engines. I find that this is an issue that had long been discussed, but I don't find the answer.
Did I miss something? Does anyone know how to fix it?
PS: He played on a PC.

Random crashing; freezing as the game loads scenery; massive framerate drops during combat (and I mean massive); various clipping issues such as enemies falling under the map, getting stuck in walls e.t.c.; VATS (assisted targetting) does not work AT ALL; scripting bugs that completely prevent you from completing missions. For example one mission has you disarm a bomb on a tram, but the tram takes off and explodes before you can reach it. And even if by some fluke you do manage to disarm the bomb, the tram takes off as soon as you step back onto the platform and explodes anyway. Oh and sometimes when you're talking to NPCs the dialogue skips ahead extremely fast, meaning that you miss out on a chunk of the conversation.

That's pretty much all that comes to mind right now. No doubt I'll be back later though lol.

Arcade Gannon disappeared outside the Remnants bunker when I emerged after complete "For Auld Lang Syne". He had just returned with his suit of Tesla Armor, and it looked like he went down the hatch into the bunker, but upon going in to follow him, he was nowhere to be found. He did not show up back at the Mormon Fort or the Lucky 38 either. He is presently MIA.

Maybe rangers are attacking because ED-E is attacking first. On the companion wheel, there's a setting for being passive or aggressive, aggressive being torching everything he see's. Make sure it's set to passive, or maybe your game might just be bricked.

There is no shortage of bugs in the game and no shortage of forum posts listing these bugs. In fact this is the buggiest game I've ever bought by a long shot.

There is a shortage of developers fixing these bugs as evidenced by how few have been fixed since game release.

Aside from the CTD's on the PC the only thing that truly bugs me is the 'sneaking' bug. While sneaking if you cross over a corpse on the ground (sometimes) you start floating. In 1st person you won't notice this until you try to interact with something like loot a body or open a door/container. If you pull back into 3rd person you notice your characrter's animation is stuck (legs no longer moving). Problem is you have to stand up to reset the animation and if you're in a crowded place you're going to get spotted.

Don't know if this is a bug, but I just noticed when using a gauss rifle, it used 5 mfc's for every shot. Now the description seems to show that is should be 5 shots to each mfc.
Did I read it wrong???

Its always Sunday whenever you restart.
North Vegas residents spawning outside of North Vegas when exiting Crimson Caravan.(Most recent)
Cowboy Repeater VATS bug.
Freeside Thug bodies not disappearing (this is the most annoying one to me)

Nothing major.

A bug where Rex runs away during each and every battle. I love Rex...and somehow putting Rey's brain in him made him incompetent.

Molerat stew requires pinto bean pods, but I haven't found a pinto bean pod anywhere in the game. Not even on traders.

I found a pinto bean plant close to the submerged huts near Cottonwood Cove, but that's the only one I've seen. I haven't found any harvestable cave fungus (even though it grows in every cave), and only one stick of the stuff.

I reached level 30, had about 70 in survival skills, hoarded all the ingredients I could gather, and still I could only make gecko kebabs and the like. There's just too many ingredients in those damn recipes, you can never find/carry it all.

Quest: Wheel of fortune

After talking to Boxcar, you go to a cave to pick up the quest item "rad suit package.

But there are no suits.

Reloading did nothing.

But quiting to the main menu, then reloading made the suit re-appear!

yes, it seems because ED-E attacking first..unfortunately when I told this, he has decided to restart the game ... but thanks anyway :foodndrink:

My first time through i worn Legion NRC powder ganger whatever armor i found & no one noticed. Standing on a rock using the cowboy repeater i'd slowly walk forward or sideways before i could put the gun away, using VATS sometimes would just go into first person view. VATS wouldn't activate sometimes when i would get attacked

This has happened for me several times - Ed-E starts blasting random npcs.. most often this has happened within the presence of NCR rangers. It doesn't matter if Ed-E is on passive or aggressive, or ranged or melee - it will attack npcs anyway. Now I got to leave it outside towns before I go talk to npcs. I'm playing on PC with steam version.

The other bug I've encountered is just the random crashes - the crash doesn't seem to occur in same place twice so I have no idea what's causing them.
