Build ideas for a new playthrough

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:00 am

Hi everyone. I've done a couple of runs so far and did all the major and side quests in the game, including the ones from "Oblivion Walker". Still I hunger for another run.

I've actively played these builds to high level:
sword/board knight, dual wield warrior (Daedric artifacts), thief/assassin.

I've tried these builds and quit after a while:
pure destruction, conjurer with bound weapons, archer/warrior, pure priest (this didn't work out well).

So my question is if anyone has a cool idea for a (hybrid) build that I might try.
Or maybe I should continue on of the builds I gave up on, because it gets better later on?

Thanks

Hi there  here are a few ideas that you may like - Demon Hunter ( dual wield daggers/swords,necromancy,enchant, heavy armour, alteration, restoration) High Elf Paladin ( block, one handed, alteration, restoration, heavy armour, enchant, ) Orc Shamen ( dual wield swords/ staff and sword, necromancy, shock magic, ) Orc Hunter ( ranged and melee combat, with dog companion, light armour, 2 handed axe and bow ) hope these are of some help to you.

I'd recommend at least trying a Necromancer build. Novice Robes of Conjuration to start, heavy Armour arms and feet for some kind of armour value. Take a heavy armed companion and let them do the work first. Then raise the fallen from the dead to fight with you. Conjuration increases pretty quickly. I'd recommend getting Bound Weapons also. If you get stuck in melee you'll always have a conjured Daedric Sword to defend yourself.

Take the Ritual Stone, so you can raise ALL nearby dead once a day.

Most fun I've had in recenmt playthroughs.

The orcs are severly underplayed. I hear that you can treat some of the orc strongholds like they were towns. My next character is going to be a sword&board orc.

Try playing the game on master and staying at level one. It totally changes the dynamics of the game and fixes nearly all the balance issues. Companions become almost mandatory, high end gear is ultra-rare, heavy armor is a liability, 2h weapons are deadly, stealth isn't overpowered, items with resists become useful, destruction remains viable, many enemies are still a challenge after 100+ hours of playing etc etc. The most unique and fun playthrough I've tried so far. Obtaining daedric weapons (by upgrading ebony weapons from deathlords) is practically a new major questline in itself, and once you have them they still aren't overpowered as your smithing and enchanting will be unperked etc.

The newest build that my brother came up with is a templar: an all good character that hunts any and all things evil i.e dremora, vampires, werewolves etc....But keep in mind that the Templar were holy knights so you cannot do any evil deeds which rules out any daedric quest unless your out to kill said daedra and followers.Other then that combat, magic, armor is up to you but a set of armor that looks knightly fits best with the build.

Well most I have found have a alchemy table, an alchemist merchant, and a blacksmith. The only "work" I have found is fighting the chieften in a brawl. What is intersting is at the first one I asked the chiefef how he became chief. He said he beat his father in combat winning the title and his wives, yet I get a measely 100 gold when I beat him.

On the level 1 concept it is fun and the game keeps your opponent in a reasonable level range. Not that it isn't difficult but as Vahkn pointed out very rewarding.

Thanks a lot guys :)
You have given me some fresh ideas that I'm going to try out when the 1.4 is official.

I've been waiting to build my Vigilant of Stendarr. Imperial race, heavy armor (at least gauntlets & boots), maces, with destruction or restoration in the left hand. Work up 1-handed, heavy armor, destruction, restoration. Maybe carry a shield & also grab some block (which works with the Amulet of Stendarr).

Travel around and root out Daedra worshippers (seek out the quests, then try to screw over the worshippers), necromancers, conjurers, vampires, etc.

I've recently been having a lot of fun with my "Gandalf" character - an elderly Imperial wizard who uses a sword, restoration, destruction, minor enchanting, and uses staves. Avoid Illusion and Conjuration. Wears robes and kicks butt with a ward in one hand and a staff or sword in the other. Easiest dragon fights of any of my characters! He's a kindly fellow who is working through all the College quests, and slowly working on the main quest as well. Sort of a traveling researcher.
