Burning House in The Rift

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:29 pm

Well, Today (actually, just now) i was exploring a little bit of the Rift and decided to go south-east. After walking for a bit i found a house burning, close to a mountain. It's just south of Stendarr's Beacon.

Inside the burning house I found a corpse with some money. the body had a note on it's hands, but it's impossible to get it or read it. I also found a book (The Wolf Queen v4) on an End Table.

Anyone know why it's there, or if there is a quest that involves it?

It's actively burning? :o I'll have to find that.

Yes. This is what called my attention. I found some burned houses during the game, but not a burning one

The corpse is holding a scroll of Conjure Fire Atronach. Obviously it backfired....

Yeah, i waited 24 hours in-game and went back, then the house stopped burning. After that, i was able to take the scroll

The fire was out? That's cool. I never went back to look.

That explains it. I was thinking dragon attack. The backfired spell is much funnier.

I didn't realize it went out later - never went back (I was able to get the scroll even though the place was burning....)

I can only imagine what would have happened if such a spell was what the female apprentice (drawing a blank on her name atm) tried on you rather than the one she actually does...

A Flame Atronarch is scripted to explode on death. The radius is definitely large enough to destroy a house of that size.

"And thereby hangs a tail," said Turjin, indicating the Khajiit's hindquarters.

I'm going to have to find that house. I've been all over that area and have never seen it.

I'm wondering if I passed by it once, didn't notice it, and have passed it since and it's no longer burning.

If you find the "access path" up to Forelhost and face directly up it, then turn back to the right, you should see it straight across. I *think* it might be directly east of the path up to Forelhost, but out of the game I'm fuzzy as to directions.

I think you'll see it if you walk the road that leads to the gate at the SE corner of the map. With your back to Riften it would be on your right.

Sweet - found it. Thanks, y'all. There was a Draught of Waterbreathing in the Chest. :o I guess he had that in case the fire dept came and got overzealous. In retrospect, perhaps a Philter of Resist Fire would've been more useful.

That cat b******. I actually died when I tried his scrolls. But it's a fun quest, glad it's in the game. I wanted to slap him good afterwards, but we're still friends.

 I had the Orc female, Borgakh the Steel Heart with me when I tried out his scroll. She was absolutely not impressed! She chased me through half of Angarvunde, then left my service. We haven't been on speaking terms since.

There are a few places that are burned that you have a chance to see them 'on fire'. At least one is specifcally from flame antronch experimentation. Over nnw of Falkreath theres a wagon with a group of people I've seen on fire and then just bruned. I do not believe I found the reason, dragon perhaps?

Interesting that. How can you get at the script if you don't mind me asking ?
