Is buying a dog as companion a good idea?

I have an weaponmaster (heavy armor, dual blades), and i was thinking about a dog for company.
But they could be a bit of a heavy block to the leg, so what is your opinion on this?

If you don't mind the constant barking and yapping and panting then yes, go for it.

Mine lasted about 5 minutes before i told him to get lost. It was beyond annoying ...

Bark, bark, bark bark bark.....bark, bark, bark,.....bark bark...(enemy totally alerted to your presence now) bark bark bark....bark.....bark. Annoyed yet? That's what it's like to have a dog.

They charge into battle, spoiling stealth and timing. They block doorways far better than even Lydia. They trip you up. Against that they can be pretty powerful, and one quest dog is unkillable. But no, after three attempts I never use them any more.

I just gave up with companions all together after a while. They did nothing but get killed by the threats facing me for the most part and getting in my way, so I do a better job of fighting solo.

Stay away from that quest dog - he'll annoy the hell out of you, and sometimes cause your death as well by pushing you over constantly - not nice when enjoying the cliff view. Other than that, I don't mind them, but depends on the character. My hunters always use dags, I love dags.

Uhm, actually, companions can only be killed by yourself...

They can be killed by area of effect attacks, so that means they will probably die against elder and ancient dragons, and any group of enemies with mages at higher levels.

Terrible idea. If the dog decides to leave or is dismissed, you have to pay for him again. He's a very expensive rental.

Make sure you don't let Barabas sneak up on you, especially wearing headphones because I have never jumped out of my chair so fast in my life. A talking dog...I wasn't expecting that

Although all of the above flaws are true, Meeko saved my ass a bunch of times, and actually died doing so distracting the dremora at a certain Daedric shrine. It was sad.
