Caesers Legion Wierd Pronounciation and Other Things.

Post » Mon Jun 27, 2011 3:53 am

While I avoid think about the freaky, nasty, sick Caesers Legion unless I have to.

Some things bother me and make me wonder.

Like the wierd pronounciations. Every time I have ever heard the words 'caeser; and 'ave', they are pronouncwed seezar and a ve.
But in the game they prounounce them kai zar and a we. That sounds more nordic/germanic than latin.
1. Either that is how they are meant to be pronounced.
2.Or It is old or high latin.
3. Or they are saying it wrong.
4. Or latin evolved over the years and is diferent in 2281.
Now option 4, fair enough, languages change over time. Or 1 and 2, that is fine.
But if they are really saying it wrong it is a BIG oversite.

Which answer is it, though? I am curious.

Do not turn the following sentences into a religious debate. I am saying it out of curiosity. Lets keep it gameplay only as far as possible or when it stops being polite. Don't diss other peopls religions.

Also, as they are copying Romans, does that mean they are polythiests/pagans? Do they worship the Roman Goddesses and Gods? Because that would be one thing I would approve of. Being a polythiest/pagan myself. Of a diferent kind to the Romans Goddesses and Gods.
Or are they whatever religions they want, they just want the manpower.
Are they more a cult of militeriness and manpower?
Did they copy the militery and political practices mostly?

Well anyway that's my questions so far.

Anyone know the answers? Lol. :)

Put what you think is wierd about the CL. It could fill many, many pages. Lol.

IIRC they view Ceaser as the son of Mars and Lanius talks about worshipping Ares, so i'm gonna guess they worship the Roman gods.

On the pronounciation, I think it varies from NPC to NPC.

Thank you. :)

Cool. A good thing about a otherwise horrible, nasty, sick faction.
So they're romans through and through.

I found the named npcs you talk to say kaizar and a we more. But the one with the wolf hat in Nipton says it softer, more like seezar and a ve. It's odd.

I think it's the correct version of latin that Caesar has taught them, it's us in modern times who's got it wrong.

Also, as they are copying Romans.

They are not trying to copy the romans, Caesar uses the bits and pieces of the romans that he likes for his greater goal.
[edit]
Well, not copy them completely.

Do they worship the Roman Goddesses and Gods?

They worship Caesar.
But it's possible that they might be worshiping other god's too.
Too bad we don't get to see more of Legion to see more of their religious side.

Are they more a cult of militeriness and manpower?

Cult?

Did they copy the militery and political practices mostly?

Won't know until we get to see more of Arizona, but it's leaning towards mostly military and political practices yes.

I find more things questionable in the NCR than I do in Legion.

Actually they're pronouncing it properly for old latin. The originaly latin was spoken with all hard Cs. that's why Chimera is pronounced: Ki-ma-ra, instead of Chi-me-ra.

Also Vs are pronounced as Ws. For instance Latin for "we saw" is vidi, and is pronounced widi.

Also keep in mind that Latin is the base language for German, Nordic and other languages spoken in Europe. If you hear the term Romantic language, it's becuase the language originated from Rome.

The only god that's mentioned by the Legion is Mars, who Caesar claims to be the child of. Caesar claims that he thought of the Roman ideologies and practices, when in fact, he learned them from the Followers of the Apocalypse.

Hope that answers your questions.

The history of "Caesar" as an imperial title is reflected by the following monarchic titles, usually reserved for "Emperor" and "Empress" in many languages (note that the name Caesar, pronounced see-zer in English, was pronounced kai-sahr in Classical Latin)

Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar_(title)

Personally, I pronounce the word in the typical English fashion of 'See-zer'. I think in-game it sounds really, really stupid when it's pronounced 'kai-sahr', and it's one of my pet peeves about the game as a rule.

As for their religious beliefs, I tend to think they probably follow the same pantheistic beliefs of the original Romans, just focusing more on the war aspects than anything else. Considering that in-game they are on the warpath, it can be assumed that possibly there's 'home territories' where things are maintained in terms of food/farming/home-stuff/etc. I mean, why else would you want to lay claim to the land? At least, that's what I think. I'm not a political mastermind, nor am I in any way really interested in WHY one megalomaniac would want to stomp on another. Because in the end it's the little people who DONT have anything to do with any of it, who get killed/maimed/whatever in the end.

HAHAHA

I just play the game because I like shooting stuff. Mostly.

Even "modern" Latin it would be a "K"........because it is Latin.

And I though Chimera is Greek.

Just because it become a loanword around the world doesn't make it no longer what it is.
