This is just a list of troubleshooting techniques that have proven to help performance for CoC. Doing all of this should help with any crashing involved along with any general problems being seen.- UPDATE DRIVERS: This goes for video AND sound. - Install the latest Windows Media Player. This seemed to resolve some issues with the game not being able to determine a video setting along with the game crashing out when first started. Media Player codecs are bundled with the game and sometimes the version of these might not jive with the version of Media Player on your PC.- SHUT OFF ALL BACKGROUND APPS: To make as clean of a play environment as possible, turn off all background apps. Things like print controllers, instant messageing programs and especially anti-virus software can introduce elements into the play environment that can make games unstable. Under Win XP, shut down background apps by doing the following: 1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del 2. Choose the Processes tab. 3. Choose End Process for things associated with the login that you're using. DON'T END PROCESS ON ANYTHING ASSIGNED TO "SYSTEM".Most of these will be self-explanatory to what they pertain to. To make it an even better play environment, shut down background apps BEFORE installing the game as well.- Make sure to run the game from the launcher in the desktop resolution you're set to. If you want to run the game in 800x600, make sure to set your desktop resolution manually to this and then launch the game. - Make sure the monitor you're using is setup correctly with the right driver. To check this: 1. On the Windows desktop, right click anywhere and choose Properties. 2. Go to the Settings tab. 3. Click on Advanced. 4. Choose the Monitor tab. 5. If the Monitor type is set to "Plug and Play Monitor", acquire the correct drivers for you monitor and install them.A lot of times, games can't instruct your video card to do the right thing if the exact monitor type isn't known. - Make sure the hertz for your monitor is set to what you choose in the launcher. To make sure of this, use the steps above to get to your monitor properties and make sure the hertz option you want to run the game in is available from the dropdown (make sure "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" is checked). If the dropdown is set to "automatic" or something similar, change it to an actual setting and launch the game under the same hertz setting. This goes hand-in-hand with the Plug and Play Monitor problem. If the exact drivers aren't set, Windows sometimes has a hard time determining what hertz the monitor can support.
