Calling All Mages!

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:14 pm

This is a thread for all mages out there. It is for posting up pics, discussing builds, discussing which races are better suited, and for discussing spells and how to improve the game (relating to magic). Also, it is for posting up ideas for future magic items, spell making, and magic related dlc. Please feel free to discuss any topics about magic :)

I really hope Mages get special attention in a DLC. I heard there are only 90 odd spells in the game, which I now understand why Xarnac the Conqueror (people who were here before release will know who I'm talking about) was persistent that it would be a terrible thing for spell creation to be removed. I can only hope we get it in a DLC, or if not that, at least some new spells.

I guess a modded mage user like myself, has no place in this thread right?

Although I have not touched the damage multipliers for Destruction and left them as is, and I'm certainly far from overpowered. I don't have echantments(I have 100 smithing and enchanting and alchemy but couldnt be bothered exploiting them). I play on Novice.

But I stick to what I have been saying in November, when it was first apparent that mages got the serious short end of the stick: Level up Illusion, get paralyze and you really limit enemies options. Combined with mass paralyze.

To get around the magicka issue, get at least 2 sets of clothing/armor, with 100% cost reduction to the schools.

1. - Destruction / Conjuration
2. - Restoration / lllusion

Alteration can be put on circlets and stuff.

You can't put magic enchants on gloves or boots.

I was planning on enchanting stuff so that I have 100% reduction, put i dont want to be too overpowered.. Anyway, modders are fine for this thread :)

Having infinite magicka though is hardly overpowered, when you're lvl50, on master and things can one hit you, while your maxed out destruction skills have been at 141 damage(example) since you got them there around lvl 20. It is at this point that one must utilize debuffs. That being said, Pacifiy is a really good spell to have too.

My first character I set out to be a mage. I pumped up my Magicka thinking how that was what a mage should have lots of, then having selected the right perks and got the right enchantments I found my spells were costing a big fat zero in magicka points. The game became ridiculously easy. So this time around I am going a similar route on the perks but am pumping up health and stamina instead of Magicka.

Hmm, you should probably keep putting points into magicka though. Some of those spells cost ALOT.

Necklace, Armor, helmet and ring each with 25% less cost on particular school and the spells are free. I am new to TES and may be missing something but if I am I didn't come across it in my first run through!
