Can anyone create a backstory for me?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 4:36 am

Well I'm trying to think of a backstory for a character, to make it fun. But I can't think of anything, can anyone suggest one for a character who will do whatever he needs to to achieve what he wants, he will be an Argonian and primarily be a archer...Ideas? Thanks.

I can give a few pointers to it, if nothing else.

Abandonned as a kid, but taken in by a Bosmer mercenary. Was trained in the usage of the bow and thought to follow money and ambition before loyalty. Bosmer caretakers die and Argonian is left to fend for himself and get in trouble in Cyrodiil/Elsweyr. Flees to Skyrim, only yo be caught by the Empire.

Born on the boarder of black marsh next to elesyn (dunno how it's spelled) he grew up learning to use on the bow, it was his families trade. However he found staying at home tiring so he decided to venture the whole of tamriel as a mercenary. While he was in Morrowind he met a gang of forsworn whom he joined, he plunder with them until he got caught, he fled to skyrim in hope of a fresh start. Only to be captured by the Empire when he arrived. Wow I'm terrible at this I can't help sorry.

I'm guessing by elesyn you mean Elsweyr? If so they don't share a border. Plus the Forsworn only occupy the Reach.

First off, roleplay is a very personal experience - it's something totally controlled by you, something that reflects your character as you imagine them.
That said, I can totally understand your 'mental blank' - it happens to me all the time when writing. I think it'd prove more helpful if we threw ideas at you, but allowed you to come up with the fine details. Yes? :)

I'd say born in Black Marsh. Perhaps left the province at a young age to find someone to train him with the bow? Perhaps that's how he ended up in Skyrim? You also need to think about family. Alive? Dead? If they're dead, why? Were they murdered? How does your character feel about whatever happened to them? How do those emotions manifest themselves in the game?

How about;
Your Argonian lives in a small village in Black Marsh, making ends meat from hunting with his faithfull bow.
He is then chosen at random to compete in a competition to the death, to provide more food and equipment to the provinces.
2 of every race are pitted in a battle to the death in Skyrim, using only what armor and weapons they find.
Your Argonian then finds a boy named Peeta, whom is in love with your ch---- oh wait...

Ignoring the prisoner rubbish.

Came from a merchant family.
Had a happy life, lived with their family all thier life.
They were a hunter and soldier in black march. Not full army, more a good sword for hire, would only work for some people.
Helping and guarding their village was good, but not what they wished.
So when they were 25, they decided to go exploring, and encountered Skyrim.
Ruthless, like most merchants, willing to do what it takes.
But a good person.

Just a sad commentary on the death of imagination.

Here's an interesting one: An Argonian from the northernmost reaches of Argonian-occupied Morrowind, weened on conflict with the Dunmer. From an early age he raided the Dunmer, honing his skills in ambush and archery. As a result, he is a natural skirmisher, talented in concealing himself in brush while lining up the perfect shot with his bow. He is also infamous amongst the Dunmer trying to reclaim their ancestral home, and during a raid on gone horribly awry in Northern Morrowind (near Blacklight, perhaps?), his band is crushed and scattered. Pursued by vengeful Dunmer, the argonian is pursued westward into the mountains of Skyrim. Luckily, perhaps, for him, he was caught by an Imperial scouting party in before the Dunmer or the elements killed him.

No, we cant,(or I wont at least). The point of this game is for you to do that your self,I wouldnt want to rob you of that.

My First RPs back when I started playing oblivion were extra [censored]y, but now(IMO at least) they are prity good.

Basicly, heres wahat I would sugest in helping your self to create a good "if not cleche" RP.

1. Learn the lore.It realy helps your character fit in to the game 10x better, trust me on that one, most important. You dont have to know every thing about elder scrolls lore (im pretty sure no one can do that), just enough to make your own puzzle piece that will fit neatly into the game.

2. Back story: Again, if its not something your good at, you'll get better eventualy.Without a back story, the game's not much fun.Again, knowing the lore helps you a lot here.

3. Sart off with a "personal MQ", and keep it going as long as you like. Let it lead you to the built in quest chains, and let it back your story up a little.

These might seem broad, but these are my "steps" if you can call them that. Most of the [censored] that ends up in my RP stories in these types of games comes to me in school/work, or while Im runing lol. Time to think helps.

So,in stead of me doing it for you, how about you tell me a good, personalised RP for an aragonian who has made his way to skyrim? It will be 10x better if you are the writer.

The best response of them all. Excellent advice, indeed.

The bond you create with a character that YOU dream up, is far more solid than anything you could follow from someone else.

Look at what you already have...An Arginian skilled in Archery.
Now, where was he/she from? read up on the lore in the UESP for some ideas of a name. Pending the name, be that one name or hyphenated into two or three, will reflect his/her origin.

That is a good place to start. Good luck.

I won't be writing you a backstory, but you might want to remember that you start with few skills of your own. They're always a standardized set of skills, with no perks. Concussions and the like are good for 'forgetting' your past, and having you end up 'mistakenly' in that prison cart. Perhaps your character's memory slowly comes back, or suddenly, brought on by triggers? Or maybe just goes crazy and steals someone else's idendity :P

Know your lore and try to pretend that your character is more than a collection of pixels on your screen. Imagine your character to be an actual person with a personality. Then think of possible events that might have transpired to make your character have this personality or what events have happened to make your character do a certain action or join a certain Guild.

A male Nord. Rejected by his family because, even for a Nord, he was seen as daft. Was forced to live under the stairs. Siblings would push scraps through cracks in the staircase so that he could eat. Was called "Cinderella" because they'd taunt him with full course meals that they'd throw into the cinders of the fire. He was so daft he'd actually reach in and grab the food, burning his fingers every time... thus his fingers became fused together from the melting skin. Eventually his parents tired of him, put a sack over his head, took him on a long carraige journey, and kicked him off the carraige two days in without any food or drink. He wept continually, soaking the sack over his face. Beetles were attracted to the moisture so they ate holes in the sack that he could see out of (he was too stupid to remove the sack himself). Walked into Markarth. Offended a rooster with his stench causing the rooster to be sent into a fury, clawing at the sack until it was ripped to shreds... along with his face. Townsfolk cheered, laughed, and threw coins at his feet because of the entertainment value of watching him shriek and dance like a madman while being attacked by a rooster. He mistakingly thought he had talent so he began a career as a mime, except without any paint or cool clothing. Almost starved to death. A traveller spat in his face once and threw him a septim. He instantly believed this was his new calling so he began inviting townsfolk and travelers alike to spit in his face for the cost of only one septim. This proved lucrative for him when he could actually collect. Sometimes he couldn't and would be beaten severely when he would object...

you take it from there.

Ah... he's a Nord who thinks he's Argonian... brilliant. No wonder his family hated him. He could be a rather fair archer with fused fingers, don't you agree?

Your father was a bandit... you mother was a bandit... at a young age they had you defending their hideouts from Adventures... you never were a good shot at that age.. you hit a few of them in the knee.. Soon after you turned 19 the Companions came and killed your fellow bandits when you were on patrol. When you recovered you started poaching and selling your game to Villages around Skyrim just to make a living.. You were tracking an elk near the Skyrim border when you heard fighting in the distance when you arrived you seen imperial troops bonding captured stormcloaks and some dirty looking peasant. Your skin stood out in the snow and you were knocked unconscious by what you think was an imperial soldier. You later awoke in a prisoner cart heading towards Helgen.

Your friends were all bandits. All of them were killed save one... and he was a monkey bandit. Everyone called you "Smokey".

I was lurking around and came upon this, so I signed up to give you an idea for your back story.
Do you know the story of Angi? If not, you may want to look it up and find where she is.
Hopefully this does not fall into 'spoiler'

Back story:
You were at the Angi's incident with Imerials and you helped her in some way. (Maybe you miss directed Imperials tracking Angi after she fled, that is why she may not know you.) Misdirected Imperials come back to kill you but you escape and get caught by the guards at the border of skyrim, maybe that was part of escaping from the Imperials. After Helgen, you find your way to Angi, because you have never been outside of your little villege, where you are from and you're desperate and she is the only one you can think of. Angi gives you lessons in archery so that you can defend youself. You decide to learn the ways of the bow and make living in Skyrim. Just as you set off, you discover that you are 'Dragonborn' and find your calling to save the world. So it begins...the adventures of the Shouting Argonian....
You can fill in more details if you like.
