Can consoles get a [limited] HD texture pack or graphical up

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:42 pm

Recently we learned that the coding for Skyrim is horribly innefficient, and modders have already increased stability and running performance by a huge percent. Many of those changes were implemented into the newest patch for PC---but what about love for consoles?

The consoles are very limited in their architecture, but my making it more efficient in some areas, they could greatly improve performance and actually allow console versions of Skyrim to improve their graphics, draw distance, lighting, and textures. Granted, thats a large scope, but it would be really nice to get some of these higher-quality images.

Higher quality graphics=more lag...do you want more lag? Didn't think so

This isn't something I particularly care too much about, but it would be pretty cool if they could add in some minor changes to improve performance and textures IF it didn't take away from the DLC and bug fixing that is.

RAM would probably be the limiting factor, so not likely.

HD texture? I still don't know what that is exactly. I can see no difference in the pack that was released for the PC. The consoles are only capable of putting out 720 anyway. The basis for a higher res is just not there. Then there is memory along with the processor speed. The consoles just don't have the means to support anything better. Besides it looks amazing the way it is. I love my xbox. The only reason i am moving to PC is for the mods.

One would think the console versions are already at their peak of "looking good" and "running properly".

Do you really think that if they could optimize it so much that they could boost every texture in the game to a higher resolution, they wouldn't have done that to begin with?

I asked Pete on Twitter about texture packs for consoles when my friends and i were comparing his PC before-and-after. His response:

https://twitter.com/#!/Jeroic9 No. There's no point. It has the best the console will support. HD Textures only applicable to PCs with highest system specs.

Not needed.
What exactly is wrong with the graphics as they currenlty are?

The devs need to spend time making sure they put out a quality Expansion Pack.
Graphics are over-rated anyway.

The game was a console port. It was limited to the consoles so pc users had to create mods so the game actually looks the way it's supposed to be. I suppose in a year or so they could tweak it enough so it looks slightly better, but the 360 and ps3 already have so many games that have design tricks so it performs/looks the way it does. All in all, no it won't look or perform much better than it already does on consoles.

Because they're weird individuals who tie their self worth to a "machine". Instead of be snobby about some actual accomplishments.

That, and they're just kids who actually were console gamers for a long time, and now gaming on a pc is some unique experience to them - so they snub their noses at who THEY used to be. When the fact is, half of us console gamers are in our 30s and 40s and have gamed on PCs for twice as long. We just don't feel like playing on a PC all the time.

That all said, I don't think consoles need this either.

This. Seriously the OP was just asking a question and then the PC elitists had to come in here and start bashing console gamers for no reason whatsoever.

Think of it this way OP if BGS could make the 360/ps3 version better then it currently is why didn't they? There is already a magintude of techniques and tweaks that have been in the game to make sure you can reletivly smoothly adding more to that would defeat the purpose. "Lets make it best looking console game ever!! It won't run for [censored] but it will pretty"

Not really bashing or elitistish. Just reality. What he said is spot on accurate. People made the desicion to buy the game on a console, No one forced them to do it. They knew going in that things like HD texture packs and mods were not possible on the consoles. Yet every single day there is posts here from console players wanting what the PC version has. Its gotten kind of old. Why not just buy a PC If you want what the PC has? Wouldn't that be more productive than adding to the thousands of topics like this here?

That's not it at all, really.

Just because you use a PC, you're weird? Really, dude? How is that comment making you better then the people you're talking about?
Please explain what'cha mean by "tying self-worth to a machine". I just plain out don't understand what you're saying in the next sentence either.
And actually, the only game console I've owned before starting using a PC is a N64 (way back) and a Gamecube. I got a PC, then got the newer consoles (Box, Wii, etc)

And next time, use less "grouping" words. (them they etc), because making generalizations like that is just not smart. While I do agree that some people are being a little to in-your-face about PC supposedly being superior, please don't group us all into one big group.

All I have to say on the matter.

It was a stupid question. It's like asking why they don't make it so your land line can use the iphone app store. Perhaps if you want mroe advanced features, you should use the system that can allow for them?

Consoles don't have the VRAM, end of story and that's pretty much why PC users have to put up with crappy texture quality from console ports.

The term HD (High Definition) is wrong really. High Resolution texture pack is the right wording. HD is a generally a layman term for higher quality. HD is used wrongly now days and on the PC, "HD" have been around longer than on TV's because PC users have been able to use 1280x720 and 1920x1080 for a long time, in fact PC monitors used to use 1280x768, 1920x1200 before the 720p/1080p standard came along.

Why are some console users so defensive? I AM one and now have a PC that really is not even all that great. I can run Vanilla Skyrim on High settings without my mods. Medium with them. Why are some people just so adamantly opposed to realizing how limited the tech of the consoles are? I can admit my consoles svck and my PC is not great for today's tech and it blows the consoles specs out of the water. Yeah the consoles are cool and convenient but they are ancient at this point. You should know that by now. Something should have tipped you off that they are outdated in terms of tech. Sure great games are still made for them and all but they ARE old. The guy just said you cannot do it. If people know what they are talking about and tell you something in regards to that why do you not listen? Denial? Nothing is wrong with using an inferior product so long as it gets the job done. You are getting mostly the same experience anyways. Mods can do a lot but the game stays mostly the same. Like 80% for the most part.

A not to the Mods, are you giving warnings to PC users who are clearly trying to flame here? I mean are you guys slacking or what? I have been seeing alot of bashing lately.

On topic, I believe Bethesda needs to do a better job in coding. Clearly it shows they can do it. They blew it apon release, fixed it in patch 1.2 (or was it 1.3) and got a bit worse in 1.4. So they know how to make it look better. Thing is it seems Bethesda doesn't know how to keep it fixed when introducing a new patch.

Instead of everything up close looking awsome on the 360 for me, and the back ground looking dated like Morrowind, now up close doesn't look so nice as once was, and the back ground looks slightly improved.

So worried what 1.5 will bring. Don't want to start a new game again so hoepfully can fix the "restarting a new game before effects come into play.

The mods are just as tired of these topics as the PC users are. Could you point to the clearly flaming posts please?
