I can't decide on a TV

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:49 am

So I only have $200 to spend on a TV, I'm a poor college student, and I can't decide if I should get a Hannspree 28inch 1080p tv/monitor or just a 32 inch 720p widescreen hdtv. I'm mostly going to use the TV for my PS3(Skyrim). I don't watch a lot of movies. I really want a 32inch 1080p tv but those are out of my price range except for the crappy Westinghouse tvs I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. A 28 inch seems like it would be too small for a tv. I'm also going to be living in a dorm for a year or two. Any advice you guys can offer?

Most cheap-model 1080p TVs I've seen have a noticeable amount of jagginess or artifacts... Those might be alleviated with the lesser resolution of a 720p TV. So I'd probably side with the 32" in your case (though in a dorm room, 28" does seem big enough to me, so it's not a size matter per se). Either way you go, it's a cheap TV and you'll probably notice where corners were cut.

1080p
ALWAYS 1080p

That extra 4 inches won't matter when you have double the resolution.

Agreed ^^

No question go with the 1080p

It does 1080p for blu-rays, but I don't think current consoles do proper 1080p for games.

Yeah, my whole deal is if the 1080p is worth it when there aren't any games that play in true 1080p. I might as well get the bigger tv at that point.

Bigger is not better. Any size screen can take up the same amount of your FOV if you sit the correct distance from it. The higher resolution on a smaller screen gives better pixel density, and will look better in every way.

I'd go for the monitor if I was in your situation.

1080p, I assume would be the best choice, since the bigger the number the better it is :)

Even if you only play games and they can only be played in 720p?

The current consoles may not properly support true 1080p in games, but they will in the next gen systems. And while you're waiting enjoy movies in 1080p they're amazing...imo.

Edit: I'm telling ya, if you buy a 720p you'll wish you would have gotten a 1080p later down the road.....just sayin.

EDIT: Between the 28" and 32" go for the one with the best picture.
