Can elven races breed between one another?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:06 am

I did some looking around and didn't find anything. Sorry if it's a stupid question but I thought it was legitimate enough to warrant a topic.

So, can say, a high elf have children with a wood elf? Is it genetically possible lore wise?

I'm playing a wood elf archer who also uses illusion and conjuration. My idea was, in terms of backstory, that my mother was half bosmer and half altmer, with illusion and conjuration magic being handed down through her family. While my father was a dedicated archer and protector of all plant life.

Would that even be possible? Could a dark elf marry breed with an Orc? They're both "cursed" so...

Please discuss. :)

Edit: it's a shame you can't change height or skin tone, I'd be a tad taller and a bit more "yeller" if you see what I'm sayin'.

We know that Elves and Humans can breed so I see no logical reason why different Elf species couldn't breed.

Every race can interbreed.

They're already here. The Elder Scrolls told of their return.

Yes, all races can interbreed with each other. However, the offspring will only take on the physical traits of the mother. Meaning, if a male orc impregnates a female human, the child will look human and vice versa.

First off, this has little to do with Skyrim, and should be on the lore forum.

Second off, yup, they can. The kids are the mother's race, with some minor traits from the father. So for instance, someone with a Bosmer mother and an Altmer father might be taller then normal Bosmer and have a slightly golden skin tone.

Thank you very much for the replies. Also, sorry, despite my join date I'm not very current with the forums but my post count should make that obvious.

I've been a huge fan since Morrowind and have clocked in thousands of hours in Bethesda's games. I just rarely come to the forums because they often spoil things for me, even in the thread titles.

Thanks again.

After much anolysis of living specimens, the Council long ago determined that all "races" of elves and humans may mate with each other and bear fertile offspring. Generally the offspring bear the racial traits of the mother, though some traces of the father's race may also be present. It is less clear whether the Argonians and Khajiit are interfertile with both humans and elves. Though there have been many reports throughout the Eras of children from these unions, as well as stories of unions with daedra, there have been no well documented offspring.

On the part about the Sloades it says "It can be safely assumed that they are not interfertile with men or mer." I don't understand that wording. Does that mean they CAN or CAN'T repoduce with the other races? I am disturbed by them either way...

And wow I didn't know that about Daedra...Actuall it makes since now, because you know, Molag Bal and the first vampire. But what about like Dremora, Saints, and Seducers? What differentiates them from like Scamps and Clanfears? Are they Greater daedra and the others lesser, like Humans to deer? Some kinky stuff here...

Actually both the Dunmer and the Altmer are both playable races in "Skyrim" so it's entirely appropriate question for here.

However it's handy that they realise the Lore Forum exists as well.

Yeah they can. There was actually a half imperial Orc in Oblivion. All of the humanoid races can intermingle and have children with each other. The only ones that cannot or at least have not are the beast races such as the argonian or khajitt. It makes me curious though becuase in the infernal city one of the characters is attracted to a female khajitt who looked like a human female. Depending on the phase of the moon they are under they take different shape so some are actually humanoid as seen in the first Elder Scrolls game. Makes me wonder if they could breed with humans...heh...probably not or maybe it depends on the phase of the moon they were born under as well. That would be pretty interesting to see.

I think it should be stickied somewhere that when two races breed together the child takes most of the traits of the mother while only retaining some of the fathers.

True, true but I'm so happy that I could just tear out your intestines and strangle you with them!
No idea what food to bring to the party in this case though. I should ask Haskill, he has more brains than a brain pie!

Ooh...brain pie... perfect! ...Care to donate?
