Can't fine the chain to open the gate

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:03 am

I'm doing one of the master mage quest, and I'm looking for the Kavohzein fang. This isn't my first character and I've have done this quest many times before, but this is the first time that the fang was in High Gate Ruins. I was already there before and got the dragon mask, but this time the gates behind the Vokun's Throne room are down and I can't seem to fine the switch to open them. If anyone know where the switch is, it would be appreciated.

Found this at UESP:

If the Radiant quest http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fetch_me_that_Book! or http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Shalidor%27s_Insights has been accepted and directs the player to High Gate Ruins, the book will be located in a chest in the antechamber behind the Throne Room. However, the antechamber will be inaccessible if the player has already visited High Gate Ruins and killed Vokun.
  • This can be resolved by using http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console commands, either to resurrect Vokun and kill him again (select the body, not his ashes) or to simply pass through one of the closed gates (use 'tcl' to turn clipping on and off).
  • Vokun's Throne Room may be accessed by utilizing a follower to open the gate blocking the player from the antechamber exit above the first room. This is accomplished by bringing a follower after clearing out the entire dungeon (unconfirmed if clearing out the dungeon is necessary), climbing up the pile of rubble, in the first room, beside Anska, and using Whirlwind Sprint to access the walkway leading to the exit from the antechamber. The follower will run through the dungeon and eventually, in approximately 1-3 minutes, appear on the other side of the gate from the player. The follower can then be instructed to pull the chain, thereby opening the gate and permitting the player into Vokun's Throne Room.

Emphasis mine. It may be that you can't get back into the antechamber at all once you've been there before and killed Vokun - regardless of what quest (if any) already sent you there. Hope one of the "fixer" tips helps if that's the case.

It work, it took me a little while to get into the right position, but once that was taken care of the rest was easy, again thanks a lot.

^ That's great; I remember this happened to me with an earlier playthrough.

So you brought a follower, etc., as per the wiki?

On a side note, it always amazes me to read and wonder how the hell people figured out these fixes on the uesp. This one might seem common sense (in hindsight!) but some of them are mind-boggling.

you are right. I was thinking about trying to go back that way, but couldn't figure out now to get up there. I was thinking why don't they have some type of rope that you could use. Even if I did get up there, I would have never thought about bring a follower, mainly I don't use them.

Excellent, glad you were able to get it done.
