Can a Follower Die on its Own?

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 1:54 am

Let's say you got Veronica and you want Cass so you fire Veronica and she says she'll wait for you at the Lucky 38 and starts walking away. Is it possible the follower will get killed along the way or do they all get where they are supposed to go? Is the travel to their destination based upon how far away they are from it when you release them or some preset amount of time?

Enquiring minds need to know these things! :bonk:

Yes, once you fire them, any of your followers have the potential to get killed. If their preservation is important to you, your best bet is to travel to the Lucky 38 and fire them in your room, saving them a potentially long and deadly trip, but adding yet another for yourself. No biggie if you want to use them again though...

Yes, its possible if they encounter an enemy along the way. I'd say its less likely to happen in FNV than in F3 though, because they will most likely follow the safe main roads home, and they run quite quickly.

But in F3, its very different. No main roads, and no running. If you fired someone miles from their default point, they will then begin a long, slow walk across the Wasteland to get back home.

In summary - if you want to be absolutely safe, just fast travel to their default location and fire them there.
