Can't make new game in Skyrim.

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 10:39 pm

I still have not been able to play Skyrim since the game launched. Bought a copy through steam. It used to be whenever I tried to start a new game, it would just sit and loop through at the screen with the dragon for hours, and never actually go into the game. After three patches, all that has changed for me, is that now when I click new game it goes to the screen with the dragon for about a minute, and then crashes to the desktop.

I am starting to become extremely disgusted with Skyrim, and I cannot believe they have not fixed issues like this yet. If anyone knows anything about it, or any possible ways of fixing it, I would be incredibly thankful. I have been waiting far too long to play this game.

The computer I use:
Custom built pc
BFG 9800 GTX+ 1GB video card
AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+ 2.8 ghz cpu
4 GB Corsair memory

Any chance you're running some driver tweaks or programs that modify drivers?

Like MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precisions, Asus OSD or Smart Doctor or anything like that? And you've got the latest drivers for your installed? Tried reinstalling after the latest patch?

I don't think I've heard the same problem before so chances are it's something on your end with incompability with Skyrim. Try to provide a list of processes running in Windows, I might be able to spot something. And whatever it's worth, those kind of issues are a pain in the ass; I couldn't get Fallout 3 working on my brand new computer until I realized it was those bloody programs that came with my GPU, Asus Gamer something and that Smart Doctor.

No I don't believe I am running any programs that modify my drivers. I have all my latest drivers installed (even re-installed multiple times), I have re-downloaded and installed Skyrim twice, on both 1.2 and 1.3. I am running the 1.4 beta patch right now because I was curious if it could fix my problem ( it didn't).

I have found only a few other people with this problem online, but it was some time ago, and no one ever helped them with the issue.

Did you want me to put up my dxdiag or whatever it is called? Not sure how to provide a list of my processes.

I doubt dxdiag would help, just take a screenshot of your processes tab in the task manager (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/6b/System_idle_process.png/250px-System_idle_process.png) stretched so that all of them are visible.

We could not resolve it. If anyone else has any suggestions, that would be great.
