Can properties be used for text replacement?

All of the things I've seen about text replacement seems to indicate that it is exclusive to aliases and actor values thereof, but I need to have the name of a spell as the text in a topic. Is this possible? If not, can you do it within Message boxes where the player chooses and option and then their choice gets passed into a script?
