Yesterday, I went into my local Gamestop to put down money for the special edition of "New Vegas". My roommate was with me, ready to do the same. We left enormously disappointed, and for the past day I've been trying everything in my power to fix the problem. I'm now on my last-ditch effort to get this solved, and I'm hoping someone from Bethesda will see this and help me out.

We were told at Gamestop that they weren't taking any more special edition pre-orders. The game's 35 days away, yet I couldn't order it. Instead, they told me, I could reserve a copy of the standard version, and then if whoever else ordered the special edition didn't show up to claim theirs at Midnight on the 18th/19th, I could have theirs.

Lemme sidestep here for a moment to say this: I'm a huge "Fallout" geek. I've been a fan for a long time, and I've been looking forward to "New Vegas" in the way that Christians are looking forward to the Rapture. I'm also an online writer-- I write for a few sites that you've probably heard of, but at the risk of revealing my identity, I won't share them here (if someone from Bethesda contacts me, however, I'll be glad to spill the beans)-- and recently drove across the state of Texas just so I could play "New Vegas" at QuakeCon and write about it. I've written a handful of stories promoting "New Vegas" over the past month or two, and I've been a die-hard supporter of everything Bethesda's done in the past. In other words, I'm not just a casual gamer/fan, I'm a professional who's a freak when it comes to "Fallout", and I push it on my readers whenever I get the chance.

I'm not about to step in and take some other dude's copy of "New Vegas" because he was unable to get to Gamestop in the middle of the night. If someone did that to me, I'd be furious, and I'd make sure that everyone I knew was made aware that Gamestop has some epically sh-tty business practices. Secondly, I find it hard to believe that any other true "Fallout" fan would take the time to pre-order the special edition and then NOT show up to pick it up at midnight. Who does that? In any event, it meant that I couldn't order the special edition, and I was unamused. Another word to describe my mood would be "lethal".

So, I called Gamestop and attempted to sweet-talk them into allowing me to order the game. I explained that I had two priorities: One, to be playing "New Vegas" on the night of the 18th, at 12:05, as soon as possible; and two, to get the special edition pre-ordered. I don't want the special edition two days, three days, or even one day after it releases: I'm a diehard "Fallout" geek-- I want it on the night that every other geek's going to be slaving away at it. Gamestop told me that Bethesda was no longer allowing for pre-orders on that title for in-store pickups. Say what?

This means that no matter where I go, I won't be able to find a place that will accomodate my two needs: "Playing 'New Vegas' at midnight" and "Getting the special edition". Why? Why would you guys limit a diehard fan like that? Surely there are other people that were waiting to put down their money, people who didn't realize that 35 days in advance wasn't enough time (maybe some of them are realizing their error as they read this). Surely I'm not the only diehard "Fallout" geek left out in the cold.

As a longtime fan of the franchise, and as someone that's been very vocal about supporting Bethesda and the "Fallout" brand in the press, I'm begging someone from Bethesda to change this. Not just for me, but for anyone else that might want to be playing the special edition on Midnight of the 18th. Every day I comb through the same four or five websites looking for "Fallout: New Vegas"-related stuff, looking for new tidbits of information. I've never seen a single thing saying that I'd be SOL if I didn't order by...whenever you guys stopped taking in-store-pick-up pre-orders for the special edition. I had no idea my time was running out, and now I'm heartbroken.

I figure, and i'm not being a problem starter, that Bethesda has limited the special edition due to they're potential for profit. They may see that they have either already received the profit potential, or are not going to receive the end profit they want for the special edition version, and so they have had it discontinued. Bethesda is a fan-focused, wonderful developer, but they have to be business smart just like any other.

Also, I was looking forward to Red Dead Redemption for a long time, and had the midnight release all planned out. I'm also an on call firefighter, and we ended up working a car accident that night, and I wasn't able to go despite how much I loved the game. Fallout Geeks still have jobs and lives and significant others, unfortunantly. (Yes, if I had ordered a special edition, and not received it the next morning, I would have been upset, just like the person who loses they're FONV pre-order will be.)

Well, usually like what Burns said, Special Editions are limited in production. Hell, I was ECSTATIC when I found a Fallout 3 collectors edition two months ago, two years after its release, in a Walmart. Hence I pre-ordered New Vegas 4 months ago, just to be damn sure I get it.

This was announced in June/July in the Bethblog.



It sounds to me that you are too late to order the edition you want as Gamestop have now run out of stock.

I ordered mine from Amazon.com. I just looked and they seem to have plenty you can buy. You can even set it up for delivery to your address on release day! That's how I'm getting mine. :celebration: :foodndrink:

This seems to be your only option. If you are as truly devoted to getting the special edition as you say you are, ordering it online should be no problem to you. You may not get it at midnight but you'll still get it the same day. While it would have been nice if you could have gotten it at a brick-and-mortar store, that ship has sailed and you don't have many options left.

If you're a really devoted fan get a regular copy from Gamestop if you want the pre-order stuff and get a Collector's Ed on Amazon.

They literally just started this at Game though: you now have to put a deposit on any higher end things you pre order, before it didn't matter. I guess it's to stop people pre ordering it then just not showing or backing out. Makes sense (deposit so they take it off cost at purchase) imo...maybe if Gamestop had that you'd be in luck (they may do, I really don't know, if so double ouch).

But erm yeah...hit the internet? As LKT said, Amazon may be a good shot but they will be around for sure.

Try gamestop.com and do the in-store pickup option, it might actually work that way...

I'm in college. I'm getting the CE mailed home and I won't get it to my next break three weeks later. I'm a huge fan, but real life is real life.

So you don't get it at midnightt. Do amazon, get it that same day.

I don't trust preordering from amazon, some of my friends have preordered from them and they didn't get their copy until 2-3 weeks after release even thou they paid the release day shipping.

Atleast you will be able to get some form of copy on the release day. I literally have no money because my annoying social life has appeared again. I might be able to get the normal edition like a week after.

The only time I have gotten it two or three weeks after is if I choose the Super Saver Shipping. Which is really just tying the box to a rat's tail and smacking it on the butt at the loading dock.

However I have ordered 5 games this way and they all show up when they are supposed to.

I'm pretty sure (one of) the reason why Bethesda isn't allowing SE preorders anymore is because they've already started manufacturing/shipping* them. Trying to preorder it now is probably the equivalent of asking to have a cake made at a bakery about half an hour before closing time: They COULD make you one, but there isn't enough time and they don't want to stay later for some random guy who decided to wait too long before coming in, but there's still plenty of premade cakes available to buy, that the person refuses to buy because he wants a custom order that they simply won't make that day.
*By "manufacturing/shipping" I mean the full process of sending the orders to whoever makes the extra stuff, waiting for it to be made, having it shipped to wherever they keep everything, packaging all of it, and finally shipping it out to the stores

Even if you can't pre-order, surely someone must have the CE on the shelf on release day? I bought Fallout3 on release day and I remember seeing lots of CE lunchboxes available.

I'm planning on heading over to my nearest shop during my lunch break on Oct 19. Hopefully they have the CE, otherwise I'll grab the regular version and find the graphic novel on Ebay later.

It's been known for awhile that the Collecter's Editions of FNV were limited. So, for the die-hard fallout fan you claim to be, you obviously dont read up too much on it. Trust me. About a week after release all the items in the Collecter"s Edition will be all over Ebay.
Well, I have need to drool over a couple circles of plastic, a deck of cards and a little book that I can just read online.

i consider myself a diehard fan of the fallout series (i plan on picking up fallout 1 and fallout 2 to play them at some point so that can be cemented), but i dont want to slap the extra money down for a collector's edition. games are expensive enough at 60 dollars a pop, and I gotta use my money for other things such as car insurance and gas. but i am saddened to learn that a big fan of the franchise was unable to make a pre-order. i know all about bad timing to feel your pain sir

Agreed. I preorder and/or purchase most of my games through Amazon because most other retailers can't beat the no tax/no shipping fee options that Amazon has, but for the most part you get what you pay for with the free "Super Saver Shipping". Sometimes it takes max 10 business days, but eventually it gets there.

NV is the exception though, need to pick up my CE copy @ gamestop and get my Classic Pack Gear bonus...

Not to be a jerk, but you should have got on this quicker if you were a "fallout geek".

All I can say, is that your goals are a bit unrealistic. But..
You could:
-Attempt to buy one off of someone at midnight.
-Wait, and get one off of eBay.
-Keep looking, and check places that are far out of your area.

Regardless, it will be very difficult. I really do wish you luck.

I find this really hard to believe. I shop on Amazon a lot (I lucked into a free Prime membership) and have for years. Their order processing/shipping track record has been flawless. Your friends probably bought from a 3rd-party selling through Amazon Marketplace. That's not the same as ordering from Amazon.com directly, although you might not even notice the difference when ordering unless you're...you know...reading what's on the screen.

That said, I pre-ordered the CE through Amazon. The employees at every single Gamestop anywhere near me (and there are a lot of them) are totally incompetent. I can say that because I worked in a video game store in high school. When Fallout 3 came out I spent a half hour arguing with a Gamestop employee about checking the back room for my PC CE pre-order. I finally almost had to shove her back there to look. Of course, it was there. Never again will I have my time wasted by some smarmy teenager that doesn't know what he/she's talking about. Well, not at Gamestop anyway. They've lost my business. Now the Fedex guy just brings my games to me at my leisure. Much better.

Sorry to hear about that.

But, at the same time it concerns me, mostly because if they give my CE to someone cause I was a few days late to pick it up or some non-sense, I'm gonna lose my mind and bad things will most likely follow shortly after.

Now I feel a little guilty. I didn't think much of it when (just 4 days ago) my local Gamestop associate said to me: "Just in time, bro. This is the last CE pre-order for all Gamestops combined."

Whew, glad I didn't wait 4 more days.
