Can't spam smithing, what about alchemy?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 11:16 pm

I learned you cannot make a ton of iron daggers to level smithing easily anymore, what about using giant toes+wheat to make fortify health potions that level alchemy? Was that stripped too?

I've been on a Skyim break.. and wondering about new character builds to make the game newly immersive to me.

Spamming is not immersive at all to me. For alchemy I prefer to spend my time out gathering plants, fighting whatever I run into on the way, then going back and making all my potions and selling them. You can level up several things at once doing that and end up with a much more well rounded character. It's also a lot more fun than just standing around in a shop making potions non-stop.

alchemy is still fun to 'abuse'

hanging moss, bear claw, giant toe
blue b wing, blue flower, g toe

glow dust and mush and hang moss
creep, lg antlers, silver betty

and, all the slow, invisible, paralyze and fortify health's that you can make, lol.

just fast travel to any city and buy out the apothecary's ingredients. then like you said make giant's toe potions and everything else in order of gold value.
http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Alchemy_Effects#Effect_List just click the coin to sort it by value
make sure you're well rested and thief stone
good way to level up speech too

Nothing was "stripped". They made Smithing just like Alchemy - the higher value an item is, the more gain you get. Iron daggers, being low value, aren't a huge boost anymore.

...but that doesn't mean you can't look at the crafting list, and find other things that use common ingredients and are worth more value. (Take a peek at leather and iron helmets, for instance. And if you're going the heavy armor route and clear out a Dwemer ruin or two, Dwarven Bows are incredibly efficient.)

You can still "spam" your Smithing. But now there's actually a reason to make other things.

Where are you people finding all these Giant's Toes? I collect alchemy ingredients whenever I find them and I only have like 8 Giant's Toes in about 80 hours of gameplay.

Alchemy vendors can stock up between 0-4 at times, also, giants always have one.

No point in leveling up alchemy so don't waste your time with it. If you ACTUALLY want to go uber (I suggest you don't) then have a knock at enchantment.

visit all ingredient sellers every day. buy everything. make potions.

collecting them, for rp purposes, is valid. to not be rping and not buying ingredients is a lack of attention to detail.

merchants inventory gets reset.

I generally only buy things (expensive, rare, crafting ingredients like ebony ingots and filled grand soul gems) when I have a bunch of stuff I need to sell to a vendor and they've run out of gold. Other than that, why would I be buying things? There's plenty of loot to find out in the world.

(also, I have trouble with the general concept "if you're not RPing, you should be min/maxing". Which is how I understood your statement there.)

I think he wants to build one. I always have a super uber character just to knock around with. It is like a vacation from the real game, and the game is a vacation from life. So that begs the question, what does it mean if my uber character takes a vacation?

I find this funny too. Even if it's just their big toe, they should have two. :)

Alchemy vendors have them all the time!.... Which can only mean that poachers are butchering them en mass! Someone call Greenpeace!

Smithing is not that hard still, especially if you got the Warrior stone equipped. What I do is while I'm out traveling and killing wolves, bears, sabrecats, etc. just collect their furs, and buy from vendors twice as many leather strips.

They don't cost much and you can make a crapton of Leather Bracers and smithing goes up a decent amount.

You're assuming giants have 10 toes, two of them big, just like you.

Silly human.

It's just like Falmers, they don't always have two ears... and they're till clearly visible on the body after being looted
