Can you break a "Dungeon" Quest if you do the dungeo

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:05 pm

I randomly foundIlinaltas deep and cleared it and found out after online theres a quest to go there later, will that quest still work or any quest thats tied to a dungeon thats already been cleared?

As far as I know, no, they just re-set. But I've only tested it with the radiant(randomly assigned location) quests. For example, I've cleared out Halted-Steam camp but then Farkas offers it to me as a 'Trouble in Skyrim' radiant quest, when I go back there, it just reloaded. Though it should apply to most dungeons.

No, it doesn't break. Either the dungeon will be repopulated when you get the quest, or the radiant story will send you to a different location. It definitely won't break anything though.

if your talking about radiant quests it doesn't really matter, but lootable quest-related items are another story. as a general rule of thumb, it's usually best to not impulsively loot everything you come across. certain items, unless otherwise noted, will only progress or be "active" within a quest line if you followed everything in the proper order. kind of dopey, i know. anyway, just be mindful of things you pick up, and if you're not sure, save beforehand. again, if picking up a quest-related item (i.e. book) doesn't prompt a quest, or progress it any way, it's probably a good indication that it will be bugged.

Luckily you cannot sell/drop quest items.

Then the dungeon will most likely reset with the quest.

I was able to just complete a quest I got after I had already been to the Barrows where you learn your first shout when I got it from the Jarl's mage in Whiterun. It was most excellent that I didn't have to go back to get another item that magically appeared when I got the quest, but I also took everything and the kitchen sink in the Barrow..

Just be careful about picking up things, especially books and items named out of the norm (or things that have 0 weight).

This kind of reminds me of something with my game. I got Dravin's Bow somewhere, probably a dungeon. Can't get rid of it because it is a quest item, don't have the quest yet.

No, it wasn't there. I always explore all ruins carefully and it was only added after I visited the Shrine.

I have cleared plenty of dungeons and collected items for quests. Hasn't been a problem yet, have had no troubles turning in quests the second I get them if I've already retrieved thee item.

There are some bugs in the system tho and occasionally you can break a quest. I haven't found that yet tho

The only issue for me is with the bards items. If you collect them early and then start the quests you won't finish the quest and they won't take the items. I had to remove the items with the console.

Usually there will be an object, like a large rock, that will block your progress, which will then be disabled when the quest is started. Other times there will be locked doors which you don't have the key to, inaccessible passages or the quest items/enemies simply won't be there, and will be replaced by generic bandits or undead.

Clearing a dungeon, no, go ahead and get your bandit-murder on.

Grabbing unique items from the dungeon? Don't touch! There are some quests, notably the bard's college quests, which will break if you pick up the items early. This is only an issue for the consoles though, on the PC you can use console commands to remove and readd the items and get around the bugs.

It doesn't break the quest, but it makes the enemies stay at the original level, So if you returned all leveled up you'll find very little challenge.
