Can you enchant this for me? No?

I hate this Npc because it shows that Beth thought about putting in NPC enchanters and then said F*** it!
not demanding a change or anything just venting...

It is quite irritating. You HAVE to either raise Conjuration skill by soul trapping, or by using soul gems, which incrreases Enchanting. It's bogus! What if I want neither skill increased?

I bet they decided to cut it so that the enchanter perks mattered more. If he could do any level of enchanting above what the base value is, it would marginalize that branch, and we don't want another lockpicking branch! (hyperbole)

I agree, it makes no sense. Especially when five seconds after asking the mage to enchant something and hearing he can't I walk away and hear him mutter "Enchanting services are one of the few things that keep us in touch with the outer world". Yeah, right. He can enchant for everybody else, just not for me...

Enchantment?
Enchantment!!!

Seems like you could have him enchant for an inflated price at 30% of the maximum perk level.

It does seem like a flaw for all non enchanting roles we play. I decided for this char I'm playing now to smith for money and armor but try to stray away from enchanting.

This is another thing that shows that Bethesda wants to drag magic threw the mud.
It is stupid not to have an enchanter that actually recharges your gear.
What if I want to make a warrior that finds an enchanted sword, and does want to use enchanting at all.

Yah. I originally didn't see a problem. But trying play a merchant who uses whatever tools are to handy, recharging staves means building enchanting ranks even though it's a "restricted schooL" for roleplay purposes.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, okay?

More on-topic, the OP does have a good point. We shouldn't be forced to enchant just because we want enchanted items (or we want to recharge enchanted items). If we can get armor without having to smith it, how come we can't enchant said armor without having to manually use an enchanting board? I understand that enchanting services would be rarer than smithing services, but would it be too much to ask that the College mages have enchantment options - and maybe one mage in every hold?

I hate how there are tons of references to things like that that should have been in the game, but then Bethesda didn't put them in. Thanks for rubbing it in our faces. Jerks ...

Kind of like uber annoying children, asking to get hurt, but they act like they can't get hurt, but the irony is that they can't get hurt?

I agree 100%. The only thing I would change about the game (which is awesome) is have blacksmiths be able to upgrade your armor and mages be able to enchant your items, both for a nice price.

That way I might feel obligated to put points into the lockpicking tree or any other trees besides smithing and enchanting. WIN WIN

I thought this was going to be about the guard dialogue where they ask to have their sword enchanted. I really want to be able to say "Yes my good fellow, I absolutely can enchant your sword. I am Thane and I like this hamlet of Whiterun and it would do well for all of us if your weapons were upgraded."
