Can you hit a dragon in the air?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:18 pm

Topic pretty much says it all. I've been able to hit them, just as they are landing or when they are taking off, or when they are hovering above me to attack. But if they just flying around I haven't been able to hit them at all. I don't think my aim is THAT bad, and my flame atronach hasn't had much luck either.

It seems like when I'm aiming right, the dragon will make an impossibly tight and sudden turn to avoid my arrow or spell.

Has anyone actually hit one when they fly around?

It is possible, i have done it several times. I like it when they die in mid air, they peacefully land then die. You just need a good aim. :) A good way to try it is to get Master Destruction spell Lightning Storm (i think) and use it to attack the dragon

Yep, done it before. My Nord Warrior has even shot a Hawk out of mid air in Solitude with a Daedric Bow, even though he doesn't have Eagle Eye or Steady Hand perks, and without the use of Slow Time shout.

If I'm aiming almost straight up, I usually miss, but not always, and I think it's because of depth perception. They're much higher than it looks. If I'm aiming a bit more horizontally, there's a good chance it'll hit. :tes:

I can't hit anything moving with a bow so I use my flames. I can aim them better. LOL

I used to try to hit them while flying. Now, unless they hover, it is Dragonrend to get them down to where I can use a blade.

It's fun when you shoot a random shot, thinking "this can't possibly hit it.." and the next second there's a pop-up saying "Critical strike on dragon" :D

I am a pretty neat shot with a bow, and I don't normally have trouble hitting them. It certainly is possible.

The perks to zoom in the view and slow time at the expense of stamina work wonders for hitting moving targets. Even so, dragons are tough, but I do hit them maybe 25% of the time, unless I'm spamming carelessly.

Hitting them with lightning bolt is probably the easiest way to get their attention. There's no chance of it missing as it hits instantly, but using a bow is much more rewarding. :)

Some time ago, jumped off Autumnwatch Tower, and landed on the back of the dragon there, in mid-flight. It was sweet, Lydia was shooting him with arrows, I was riding him (for a short while), pounding him with a blade, and he went nuts. When he shook me off, I took considerable damage, but I was laughing so hard it didn't matter. He died shortly thereafter to my sword, with this really irritated look on his face. So we both hit him in the air, Lydia with arrows, me with a pair of boots.

I used to be very bad at hitting them while they flew but after a lot of practice I get them a lot now.

This really isn't a boast, the hit zone for taking down the hawk is large, you just need to fire a arrow/spell vaguely in the area it is.

Shock magic is brilliant for hitting dragons, it has no delay so will always hit if you aim right.

My favorite moment is when you deal enough damage while they are in the air and they crash land onto the ground creating a huge crater line of dirt.

if your aim is good enough and you know just when to fire it can be quite easy to hit a flying dragon so long as they arent too far away 8 bears distance or less is prefferable yes i use skyrim bears as a measurement in game dont question it. the slow time shout can help too gives you plent of time to figure out how far ahead of your target to fire was even able to kill one midair that way by unleashing about 6 incinerates that it ran into one after the other.

I think it is possible.

But I've tried many times and I don't think I've hit them even once. They just fly too irregularly and sometimes too far.

As indicated above, it is not that difficult to hit them with an arrow or spell if they are landing or taking off. But it is very difficult if they are in full flight. But I don't see why the gameplay mechanics would prevent it with a well placed, or very lucky, shot.

Bear measurement? I'm intrigued. Is that when a bear is right-up-in-yo-face? How many many feet would you say that is? It is also quite hard to hit them when their turn rate is faster than a Hellions in SC2 (stupidly fast). :P

You can hit them in mid-air, at least with a bow in my experience. I remember shooting a random arrow at a Dragon that was no way near me (attacking some people in the distance) and I hit it. It was really cool.

I'll be make a new mage someday so I'll see if I can hit it with spells.

I've hit a few while they were trying to fly away, but if there is a random one flying around I couldn't hit it to save my life.
Gave up on archery along time ago I didn't like how NPC's pull a Matrix style-agent bullet dodge on arrows even with the slow down time perks.
