can you turn it off somehow? its annyoing in the screen and im looking on the map anyway...completly useless

Did this on a friend of mines machine.

Find your SkyrimPrefs.ini (think its in your User/Documents/My Games/Skyrim/)

Open the ini file

Find these lines:

bShowCompass=1 bShowQuestMarkers=1

and set them to = 0

Look a little harder, there is an options to remove quest markers and floating quest markers in game, however, if you want to remove the compass entirely you can edit skyrimprefs.ini found in \Documents\My Games\Skyrim and search for the entry bShowCompass=1
