Cannot find Skyrim to buy anywhere in IstanbulTurkey

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 10:22 pm

Hello folks. I've been searching for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in computer/entertainment shops all over Istanbul for months now, and I cannot find a single copy to buy anywhere...

Other (older) Bethesda titles like Oblivion or Fallout: New Vegas or the Fallout Collection are widely available to purchase.

99% of newly released games, from Syndicate to Mass Effect 3 are widely available. There's usually 5 - 10 copies of them in every shop.

But not Skyrim, sadly. I haven't come across a single copy of it to date.

When I ask about Skyrim, I get told "That game was imported to Turkey in a small quantity only, and sold out right away. You will not find it anywhere you look!"

What's going on with Skyrim, Bethesda?

I really want to buy and play it, but cannot find a single copy sold anywhere.... =(

There's many, many RPG fans in Turkey, and I guess they cannot find the game either???

Buying from Steam et cetera is not an option, as I don't use my credit card online.

How can I get hold of a DVD copy of Skyrim, Bethesda?

I'm sick of sifting through PC game shelves in shops all over the place and coming up empty each time!

Thanks in Advance,

Baybearz

Use Paypal, credit card, debit card or hope that you're not going to be searching forever in vain.

The guy or gal told you exactly how it is. It was imported in small numbers and the physical copies sold out.

Yes, but every other new PC game is widely available in shops.

Its just Elder Scrolls V - which I would think would be a bestseller here - that is impossible to find anywhere in Istanbul.

So what's going on with Skyrim, Bethesda? Why is it nowhere to be found in the stores?

Why can I find a copy of every new PC game, including many that I don't even want, and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is impossible to find?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, your going to have to go online to get the game, even it is someplace like Amazon.uk or some other online game retailer.

If you are concerned about using your card online, then maybe you need more than one credit card. I use one credit card for online purchases only. That way I can easily verify the bill on the card I do use online, and if any online charges show up on my regular cards, then I know they are bogus.

That's fine that every other PC game is around; Skyrim is not.

As you stated in your original post, Skyrim sold out. That is why you are not finding Skyrim in the stores.

Your only three options are; buy it online, search in vain, or don't buy it at all.

If you can't find Skyrim in Constantinople, it will be waiting in Istanbul.

I've had a look at several different online retailers in Turkey.

I can find copies of everything from Morrowind to Oblivion to Knights of the Nine to Fallout Trilogy to Kingdoms of Amalur.

Just not Skyrim. It cannot be ordered or bought anywhere it seems... Its not in stock anywhere in Turkey.

And its the only PC game that has this status of "Impossible to find" ! I can find every other game...

I'm trying to understand what happened with this 1 particular game that I really really want to buy.

Bethesda, are you reading this? If you are, can you ship a couple of hundred more copies of Skyrim to Turkey so it becomes available to buy?

Thanks,

I can't see Bethesda going to some distributor, "Oh no, we are not going to sell you any more copies of the game. Nope, no matter how much you want them, you can't have them"

So, perhaps you need to ask the game distributors why they are not buying any more copies to sell. Maybe you need to ask the local stores why there are no more copies coming in to sell. I am sure Bethesda will sell all the copies that people will buy.

Or, you can import the game if you can't get it in Turkey.

This.

Get one of those "secured" credit cards and only put enough on it to make your purchase.

Yup. And just check the little checkbox that says "don't save my credit card information", and you don't even have anything to worry about if super-hackers ever managed to figure out how to actually break through all of Valve's security and pilfer working CC numbers.

After the one 'breakin' that did occur, I never heard of even one proven case where somebody's CC number was used by thieves afterwards, that was directly connected to that hack. They might have gotten some encrypted information, but it never got decrypted by them.

None of your pc game retail stores will order it for you? If you haven't asked, ask them to order it for you. IF they can't order it then their might be a reason, ask what that reason is. I haven't read anything about the game haveing any customs issues, but that doesn't mean dooodley. import problems happen all the time, but you won't know unless you ask. It may not be that Beth doesn't want to send more copies, it maybe that they aren't getting through customs or are not being ordered. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!

There are thousands of rabid RPG/Fantasy game fans in Turkey, and Skyrim is currently the "King of the Hill" of RPG games.

So logic dictates that there must be hundreds of other people like me running around game shops, asking to buy Skyrim for PC.

The cryptic answer I got when I asked a shop guy was "Very few copies of Skyrim were shipped to Turkey. You won't find that game anywhere..."

Something similar happened with the "Hunger Games" book trilogy. It wasn't available to buy anywhere for months. Then it suddenly appeared on bookshelves.

This is the first time I have experienced this happening with a popular PC game title though.

Other current PC games like Syndicate, Mass Effect 3 et cetera are widely available.

And no, as far as I know Skyrim isn't banned in Turkey. (Why would it be? All other RPG games, no matter how violent or sixy, like WOW or Dragon Age II or Witcher 2 are widely available...)

What I really want is to get through to someone from Bethesda...

How can it be that a game as popular, well reviewed and "allround good" as Skyrim can't be found in any shop or from any online retailer in the country?

The whole thing is a big mistery to me...

Why oh why are even the crappiest PC releases on sale here, but Skyrim is impossible to find anywhere?

I would ask the Turkish distributor why this is the case, but it is - sadly - unclear who the Turkish distributor for Skyrim is. (It usually says on the game box... I can't find the game box anywhere).

Bethesda, are you reading this?

Thanks,

If you want to avoid using a primary credit card online, like someone said, you should be able to get a second card only for online...Can't you get a Prepaid card that can't be used beyond the prepaid amount? Get one with just a big enough amount to get Skyrim and use that to get Skyrim, and then destroy the card once it's completely empty.

That's pretty much the only way to do it right now, since your game stores were evidently caught by surprise by the game's popularity and underordered.

It wasn't Bethesda's boo boo, it was the orderers at your retailers.

I hope they aren't trying to set you up, by artificially creating an unbearable demand, then charging a jacked-up price for the game once they start 'becoming available' again. And I hope I'm just being cynical ;-)

It is unclear at present whose BooBoo this is. But it looks to me like it may be Bethesda's...

Surely 6 - 8 different retailers in Turkey (including Giants like Saturn) can't all make the same mistake of "underordering" the best & biggest RPG game since Oblivion?

Other new PC games are in plentiful supply, but Skyrim - just this one PC title - doesn't even show up by name when you use the "Search" field on retailer websites.

Its almost like the Skyrim game doesn't even exist... but Oblivion, Fallout, Dragon Age II, Witcher 2 et cetera are available everywhere.

I think this may well be a problem on Bethesda's side...

Bethesda, are you reading this?

If yes Bethesda, then when, if at all, is Elder Scrolls: Skyrim going to show up in Turkish stores???

I've been looking for this Skyrim PC everywhere, and can't understand why just this one game cannotbe found anywhere?

Please, please, please do something about this, Bethesda!

Thanks,

Um, the way stores work, is they decide how many of an item they are likely to be able to sell in the near future, and then they order that many. Bethesda doesn't do their ordering for them, and would have no reason to limit the supply for any arbitrary reason. I'm sure Bethesda would be more than happy to take any and all the Turkish money it can. Capitalism, baybee! If none of those stores has told you that Bethesda deliberately limited their supply for some reason, then it has to be either the stores or some glitch in the supply chain in between that's causing the shortage. As far as I can tell from your posts, none of your store sources over there has accused Bethesda of holding out on them, and I'm sure they would have been happy to claim that, if such was the cause of their shortage.

Well, I know you'll hate me but I live in Ankara/Turkey and have the game :) I bought it 1 week after the release, but I think the game was sold out that day :hehe: I feel like the only guy that could buy the game because I have many friends looking for the game that cannot find it here. I don't get why the distributor doesn't buy more copies of a game that was sold out in a couple of days :wallbash: Don't be mad at Bethesda, since the problem is about the distributor (I guess). It is "tiglon" by the way... You can download the game through steam, I know it is not the same as having a physical copy for some people, but you can at least play the game instead of waiting
