Cannot get updates. HAAAAALP

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 3:45 am

I usually don't have my 360 hooked to the internet, but I just connect here and there and get updates and it works automatically.

The last time I did that was 1.4.

In my network connections, it has a check overt he Wired Connection (I am using ethernet) and no check over Wireless. Normal.

However, it keeps saying I cannot connect to xbox live. Also, when I open Skyrim, no updates happen, even though I am only on 1.4. I am really worried I won't be able to get DAwnguard, and I want the updates.

Help please?

Go through the full connection test. It will ask you to sign out before testing your network connection and its ability to connect to the internet, and subsequently xbox live. If there is a problem it should tell you at what point its at.

Did that. It didn't day there was a problem - said I was connected. But when I sign into a profile it tells me "my console cannot connect to xbox live".

Have you tried restarting the router?. Occasionally problems with xbox live can be fixed by doing this

I'm an Xbox noob, so I don't really know if this could be a membership issue? Do you have to have the paid membership to get patches? Also, are you in a country where they haven't pushed the last 2 patches?

Hello :)

Being an Xbox Live member is completely free. Being a subscriber will get you deals, access to applications and online play, and definitely has nothing to do with getting updates for your games ^_^ If you can connect to Xbox Live normally without having any network address translation issues I recommend you contact Xbox Live support. Have you also considered that your Live Gamertag or console may have been suspended? If you contact Microsoft they will give you a good understandng if that's actually happened. You may also want to try to restart your network and see if that helps or contact your internet service provider and hear if they have anything so say.

I hope you get this resolved soon for Dawnguard :)

Hi guys, thanks for the suggestions.

I don't see how anything could have been suspended, I have never played an online game in my life, so I couldn't have done anything to warrant that.

I live in Canada, and the updates are released here the same time as the US.

I have unplugged my router and then plugged it back in. Is this what you guys mean?

Thanks.

Yes. Unpluging from the mains and plugging back in will restart the router.

If that didn't work then try putting the xbox in the routers DMZ. You could look at this website for help in doing that http://www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/
Although that website is aimed mainly at the UK so not sure if whatever router you are using would be listed.

Another option is have you tried creating a new free xbox live account?
If it lets you create another account and it connects to live you could use that account to get updates. It also might update your console when trying to set the account up which could also possibly fix your connection problem.

I agree with Falnor, if plugging the router back in doesnt sort the connection problems then create a new silver live account. That account if it connects can be used to download updates which your original profile can then use.
