Cannot map the "2" key. By design?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 9:05 am

I can't seem to map any weapon to the number 2 key. It already has an icon as well which looks a little like binoculars.

Am I missing something?

Cheers.

There are different types of ammo (i.e. .357 magnum, .357 magnum hollowpoint), which have different effects. 2 is used to switch the ammo for the gun you have equipped.

Yes, the Ammo Swap button is hardcoded to the #2 Key.

I hope they allow this to be moved at some point. 1 is for pistol, 2 is for rifle in all my games. But this one.

Ah, that's what it is supposed to be. Thank you!

Rather irksome though. I'd rather we could map it elsewhere too. 1-8 already isn't enough for all the weapons we have. heh

Cheers.

Had the same problem. Its very annoying. Get Autohotkeys.

Make a macro and in it just have this in it:

#ifwinActive Fallout: New Vegas
2::8

and then just switch your ammoswap key to something else. Basically it says, "when 2 is pressed send 8".

This works temporarily. I'm hoping someone will be able to make an in game mod ammoswap.

Btw, if you run fallout new vegas in administrative mode I don't think it will work.

There is an option in the keybindings to set ammo change and its listed as '2', but im not sure if changing this allows you to use the 2slot

You can change the key in remap options, sure. But due to hard-coded idiocy, we're left without '2' by design.

This is stupid.
Definitely needs a patch.
Hardcoding keybindings, really?

Yeah - this drives me nuts as well.
In all my games, 2 is whatever scoped weapon I'm carrying, or binoculars if I don't have a scoped weapon, or a bow in games like Oblivion.
Basically, it's my "let's see what's out there'"key, and I've got this hardcoded in my head for years.
The real idiocy is that you can remap the key for swapping ammo, but still can't use the '2' you've just freed up by doing so...
Definitely needs to be patched out of existence. Baaaad design decision.

Hotkey1=0002FFFF
Ammo Swap=00030301
Hotkey3=0004FFFF
Hotkey4=0005FFFF
Hotkey5=0006FFFF
Hotkey6=0007FFFF
Hotkey7=0008FFFF
Hotkey8=0009FFFF

Hotkey2 anyone?

Hotkey2 anyone?

I've played with that, but I can't get it to work. In the Fallout3.ini it has Hotkey2=0003FFFF. I remapped the ammo swap to another key, then added Hotkey2=0003FFFF to the .ini, but it still wouldn't let me use the 2 as a hot key.

This issue is ridiculous. Its just lazy on obsidian's part not to change this for the PC. I should absolutely be allowed the extra hotkey. Right now, i am getting ready to mod my keyboard DRIVERS to map each key after my "2" key one key to its left, then reassign the 2 key as the "0" key. I hate this lack of customization THAT MUCH.

EDIT::::

I cant remap the key. Fallout New Vegas knew what i was doing and ignored the changes to the drivers. Now I am genuinely angry at the developer for doing this. They even went to the trouble of coding an error message in the game telling you "no, we don't want you remapping this key". That is SUPREME laziness, or they really, and very idiotically if this is the case, thought it would add some level of... some thing like challenge (?) to the game. If it was an over sight, and gets patched then i retract my idiot comment, but IF this is the case, Obsidian, you are WRONG. I did NOT buy this game on a console. I bought it on the PC. My $1200 PC. Let me use my $100 keyboard they way it was designed to be used.

EDIT AGAIN:::::
Tanilis's fix works well enough. I am a little less furious. Still annoyed though.
