The catacombs in Whiterun are a bit off the beaten track (if anything can be in Whiterun). It's not a spoiler, anybody can just walk into them. They're accessible through the Hall of the Dead. And...
Spoiler
you can even get a quest in the Hall of the Dead!

Anyone can just walk into anything. If they do not know they are there...then that is a spoiler. I have been playing almost daily since release. I didn't know it. Well, I do now.

That "quest" is the most pointless, stupidest, and least rewarding in the game....

Spoiler or not, thank you for that. It didn't spoil it for me, I've been wondering how to get there for the longest time. I knew they had to be there, thanks for confirming it for me!

Hardly a spoiler... but I wish I found it first playthrough... from a design standpoint it's obvious this short easy dungeon was meant for a new character... in follow up playthroughs I would do that quest first when visiting Whiterun prior to the Companions questine

I don't know how you guys go so long without finding stuff like that in the towns. The first thing I do when I enter one is thoroughly explore every location inside the walls. I talk to everyone and try to find all the quests I can and just to see what each building contains. That's part of the fun to me.

It's not that big of an issue. I hope I didn't come across as trying to be a Spoiler Cop. That was not my intentions. There are a lot of detailed discussion in the forum. It is expected to come across something you didn't know about. The title hints to the content. If one doesn't know, then don't enter. Right?

As far say people playing for so long and not finding some stuff? So what? Honestly, I am in no hurry to discover everything.

Nevermind. I have done that quest before. I was thinking you meant some hidden door that lead to a dragur ridden tomb.

Funny how some things just slip past people. I think I did that quest my first time in Whiterun and it took you 200 hours to find it. When I first went in there I was like "Whats that noise" :bolt:
But there is a lot of times i go past some place I have been to 100 times and would be like "Hey I never noticed that before" or "WTF THE WHOLE TIME AHHHHHH"

There are lots of quests I have just passed up doing all together. I have never fixed the tree Whiterun. I know who to talk to start it, but No character has ever had the need to do so. I talked to her with my first character and have never said another word to her. Pending the current character and their potential interest in the tree, I may never do that quest.

Hell, I have never advanced past meeting the Graybeards, after 1200 hrs.

All of my characters do things, go places and accept quests that are fitting for THEM to say and do. Not just because I know it's there and can be done.

Similarly I'm always finding full blown side quests i've never seen before after hundreds of hours played. Outskirts of the world map has some cool stuff around it.
