Catalyst 12.3 Out

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 8:57 am

Just installed the new catalyst 12.3 and for me it is a very good driver for skyrim. Fixed all the flashing blocks when AA was enabled that was in 12.2 and overall my framerate is great. Have it installed with 12.2 CAP1

Sweet! Maybe now I can take the "AMD 12.2 are bad drivers" bit out of my clipboard and stop having to copy/paste it everywhere. ;) From reading the release notes, this seems to be a pretty decent release...lots of issues stomped and no really egregious known issues.

I'll upgrade tomorrow or the next day and see how it behaves.

I have always had the odd mountain top in the distance with weird flickering. Not sure if its a driver or engine glitch though.

they seem ok so far; no glaring issues at least. i see ATT no longer works so you have to use the CCC which doesn't really suit my fancy, but i may stick with these ones for the time being anyway.

I bit the bullet and decided to give 12.3 a go. Installation went good, and I myself notice a nice improvement in Skyrim! :D

yeah I just went from the 12.2, with no real issues, to the 12.4 (beta?) dont use it! i just finished removing it, and installing 12.3. about to put it to the test!

...and on a side note, i gained noticeable frames from using the AF in game, instead of forced from ccc. havent seen any visual difference.

I installed and the flickering when crossfire is enabled seems to be gone except on mountains in the distance. First person view stuttered a lot more. I actually lost fps with crossfire in certain locations. I went up and looked down at Whiterun from the top of the stairs leading to Dragonsreach and my fps dropped down in the 40s. Disabled cf and my fps went back up to 60. I'll probably never use cf with this game. It just doesn't seem to work well with it.

Tested this and the CCC V12.4 beta. The 12.4 beta is about 10-15 fps faster with the same settings and I haven't got any problems so far with this newest beta.

I'm still getting the AA distiortion, flashing squares malarky as i did with the pre cert 12.3. Anyone have a link for the 12.4 beta, couldn't find it on the AMD page.

AA works for me again, sweet. (Hate jaggies!)

I was using 12.1 for some time without issue. I tried 12.2, but ran into the AA issue.

I tired to go back to 12.1, but I now had different graphical issues in game. A red http://www.clker.com/cliparts/2/3/2/5/1194984827960120970no.svg.med.png, or a flashing yellow "something", not a ! though, under the water wheel in Riverwood. I also had a distant image flickering in the water. It looked like a building, but it wasn't. The mountains and clouds south of Whiterun would flicker terribly to.

I used Driver Sweeper, and a registry cleaner and nothing would get 12.1 to work again. Thankfully 12.3 seem to be working nicely so far.

I haven't seen it either on AMD's site. Here's one link and with google you can find more

I had the same problem, I fixed it by completely removing CCC and reinstalling afterwards, it seems like updating the drivers doesn't work poperly.

This is really what you should do with every GPU driver update--scrub out the old, reboot, install the new. That's what I do every upgrade. It's a pain in the behind and takes a while, but it saves a whole lot of trouble in long run.

Speaking of, I just did all that earlier  to upgrade from 12.1 to 12.3. Booted up Skyrim after it patched and jogged from Rorikstead to Whiterun. No gray pixel squares, no wacky shadows, and no perceptible performance decrease (or increase, but my performance was awesome before, so) from 12.1. I'll go ahead and give these new drivers a thumbs up.
