Cavalry

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:00 am

I've been enjoying the game but would like to have the ability to use my sword and kick at enemies while on horseback. The whole point of cavalry is to be able to knock people away with authority!

As much as I like the game I resent having to get off my high horse in order to even conduct business.

probebly not yet, that one is hard and will take some time.

I would love to be able to at least communicate with NPCs while on horseback, I'm sure this has been discussed but its
an obvious ommision in the base game if I'm not mistaken.

The CK has only been out a month, most of us just learned how to do stuff with it. So next month maybe some uber moder will make mounted combat.

I understand, I saw the mod kit but wouldn't dare try it, I have no experience with these things. I saw some cool mods but haven't downloaded any yet.

There are already mods for horses. Mods to make them faster and to ride them in first person. You might want to go check them out. Offer some kind words to the makers and ask how viable your idea is for the new future.

Now that I think about it, it will probably take much longer than a month. Animations would be a big problem for most if not all moders. Trample damage on the other hand can be achieved with current game assets.

I am dying for a game where you can fight as cavalry, instead of mounted infantry. I'm sure there are some but at this level I had hoped for it.

They did show mounted combat in the Game Jam. So it's possible that at some point in the future, there might be an official mounted combat DLC. I wouldn't keep my hopes up for it, though.

Oh, and I'm guessing you haven't played Mount and Blade?

I don't mind waiting, it would be huge.

No I haven't played Mount and Blade, I have played only Total War that has cavalry.

You might be waiting forever. They may not release it.

Then I'd recommend you try playing it. In Total War you're in control of large units. In Mount and Blade you control one character, in first or third person views. Kind of like Skyrim, so fighting is much more personal. And you're fighting battles with up to 250 troops at a time. With mixed units. It's a great game.

They're not the best, but what do you expect? It has up to 250 soldiers running around a battlefield.

Hi WTSherman,

want a game with immersion, interactive world and true mounted combat, working spears and thrown weapons? Let me suggest Mount&Blade with TLD mod...

You might give up Skyrim for that, temporarily of course...

Happened to me, I have to confess. Bought Mount and Blade Warband 2010, played it for an hour and threw it from my harddisk because of ugly graphics, no understanding of the combat system and other games I wanted to play. Tried it again a few weeks ago, with Brytenwalda mod, Prophesy of Pendor mod, Blood and Steel mod and AD 1257 mod and did not start Skyrim or any other game one time since then. Mount and Blade warband with mods is so awesome, you should try it.

I remember playing mount and blade around 4 months ago. My sister (who only plays japanese games with anime design) looked at the game and said "those graphics are awesome, almost look like real life!" .

Back on topic, there was a mod for mounted combat in Oblivion:

So theres hope that someone could make something like that for skyrim.

Fighting on horseback and cavalry are different things.

Cavalry is a military force that sits horseback, used for charges, flanking maneuvers, etc. Seeing an Imperial cavalry charge into a Stormcloak infantry line? That would be EPIC!

Oblivion's "Deadly Reflex" mod had much better mounted combat than that. I used to ride around on my Orc Warrior and chop the heads off of NPCs and "joust" slower but stronger targets. With the difficulty at max, it would take me like 32 hits to kill a Brown Bear with a Daedric Battleaxe at 100 Strength/Blunt skill when on foot, but on mount, it'd take more like 6 hits. The maneuvering definately took some getting used to though, but once you got experienced with it, you were death on hooves. Only thing i wouldn't take on while mounted was Mountain Lions, they were just so damn fast and agile that they could keep up with Shadowmere at a full sprint, and that was AFTER i had modded Shadowmere's stats to give him 100 Athletics/100 Acrobatics.

I would die if we would have such a combat like in M&B Warband.

In Skyrim we have realisic char animations and in Warband realistic comat. Altogether it would be epic.
