Centurion

One of my favorite warrior classes in history was the Roman Centurion and I confess that one of my favorite movies of all time was also the Centurion (where the Centurion character was trained by his Gladiator father). I was thinking of making a warrior to be Centurion like but I find myself a little torn and could use some advice.

1-Heavy or Light armor? The guide says light armor for a shield warrior but I dont know if it is wise. Additionally I know that there is Imperial Steel armor that looks centurion like, I just warrior that it will quickly become outclassed and I would need better armor, any thoughts?

2-Dual Wielding vs Shield? I worry that the shield will not allow me to do enough damage and I dont really want to be bogged down as some slow shield wielding knight.

I want to stay mobile and adaptable but be able to put up a serious fight, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Light armor for shield characters is actually a good idea as it gives you a better stamina recovery rate for shield bashing, which can be the difference between survival or a sword getting run through your gut. This style is also plays well for a reflex/reaction type of player because if you time the shield bash while the enemy is swinging youll send them staggering back. It's possible to reach the armor cap with light armor in the end so you wont have to worry about not having enough armor, it would just better serve you to have your stamina coming back at a decent rate.

Makes sense, another question occurred to me. Is the shield that necessary? I mean have one for emergencies but use my one handed and just block, is that viable?

I keep an "oh crap!" shield just for additional enchantments. Suddenly facing something you're weak to (fire) like dremoras or some hell-bent dragon when you're not really prepared justifies having one. I normally keep fire & magic resistances on one.

Your damage with a one-handed weapon will be fine with smithing. You'll also probably want smithing to be able to use steel armor and not have it be awful (it's necessary to reach the cap). Blocking without a shield is pretty pointless; it's better to dodge. However, if you're going for the legion, i'd use a shield for flavor. :)
