Changeing class type half way through?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 4:21 pm

Hey fellow forumers,

Been playing the game for a week now, Im level 43 and have so far leveled as a warrior type with a 1hander and a shield. However my skills in block, 1handers and heavy armor are now capped at 100 meaning Im no longer gaining XP from them and leveling has slowed down alot sine they capped.

Would it be feasible to swap my charactor over to mage type using destruction and the like to keep gaining XP, or at this point (level 43) would it just be a waste of time and skill points to do so?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated :)

Thanks, Alex.

Could you post all your skills (that have a decent amount of points)? Also your base stats?

I would say you'd have no problem at all, though you might want to increase the difficulty if you are not on max, and look into Conjuration.

cap is 81 and yes you can get everything to 100.

totally agree, what i would suggest is using conjuration for your weapons for a little while (unless it breaks your RP) its different and should help it up, also illusion is a great fun you can use fury on a group of enemies so they attack each other and then wade in with your sword and board, or you could use archery to help wear them down thus heping 3 at once;

conjured bow (conjuration) / Fury (illusion) / bow - (archery)

Its actually good that you have train a lot of combat skills because I find that if focusing on just magic will level you up faster than what you can get for equipment which would put you at a slight disadvantage.

I'd actually recomend starting a new character rather than trying to max out this one. You'll find it a lot more fun. Grinding skills up to 100 just so you can say you did, or add a few more perks, really isn't fun. Most do it by finding some flaw in the design that they can exploit. You can level up cojuration from 20 to 100 in a single play secession simply by finding a safe spot in combat with something and spaming "bound sword" until you're level 100. What fun. You can find similar exploits to level any other skill. But when you're done... then what?

Here is a radical thought. Don't worry about leveling your character anymore. Just play the game. This is not a flippant remark, but it goes to how the game works. Once you get up in the 40's, the game does not offer anymore leveled enemies or loot. There is no game reward reason to level. The only reason to level is because you are developing a character skill that is not maxed out, not because you need to in order to handle what the game is throwing at you.

It has been this way since the beginning of TES. Once you reach a certain point in character development, it all becomes academic to gain any more. I kind of like it as I can stop worrying about my character and instead worry about what is in that next dungeon.

It's more fun to have different characters specialized in different things, with different agendas, than to try to do/see/level everything with one character. Experience with MMO's seems to be the enemy here, as you really don't want to reach level 80 in a TES game. It will be so comically easy at that point that any fun/challenge will have long departed.

Thanks for that reply, I was under the impression it was needed to keep on leveling and such to maybe get harder quest chains and the like. Im kinda new to this franchise Ive been playing WoW for the last 3/4years so I guess thats why I was under that impression lol.

If you have 100 archery and 95 one hand, you think, I better not shoot this guy, I should rush him and chop him with my sword to level my skill.

If you have 100 archery and 100 one hand, you think, what do I feel like doing? What is more fun?

I have two characters, one that I started on 11-11-11. That first character just reached level 44 last night after more than 120 hours. My combat skills are maxed or close to maxed, my support skills are in the 60 to 80 range and the game offers just the right amount of challenge. I went into a dungeon last night, to help someone with a Necromancer Issue. If I did not have two followers with me (one was provided by the quest) I would have died many times. The battle in the last room took 20 minutes. As it was, I had to reload once because the quest follower died.

Of course, I had just gone into another dungeon that had 3 Trolls and they all fell rather quickly to my blade. So, not all places will be a challenge, but that's OK, it is just basking my awesomeness to snooze through a dungeon once in a while.
