Changes in new beta 1.5.24.0.5?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 5:16 am

Steam just opened the beta again, and Skyrim updated to v. 1.5.24.0.5. I can't seem to find a changelog or list of changes anywhere. Anyone know where to look?

Well, that's a nice list. Good job Bethesda.

I'm especially glad about Shadows on grass available (PC), Improved visual transition when going underwater, Improved distance LOD transition for snowy landscapes.
Those were unexpected, and warmly welcomed

I'm personally not that happy about killmoves (but I still really appreciate the act that you guys are added new features, it's very nice; your gamejam stuff was awesome, please keep add!), but that's because I don't like forced third person as a 1st person player. I'll have to mod it out, if it's not optional...

There are some major things that still needs to be fixed. Seriously.
Extremely low sound for what it seems... a lot of stereo speaker users (which is really commen, so A LOT of people have the problem): http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1351097-so-when-will-bethesda-fix-the-low-sound-issue/
Also, mountain flicker / Z-fighting is something the majority of PC users experience. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1336456-mountain-flicker-z-fighting/
And... the 64-hz issue/bug/whatever it is, really should be fixed. It's been in all your games since Oblivion I think. It's about time to fix it: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1358196-bug-64-hz-again-plz-bethesda-fix/
Finally, shadows really should be improved: http://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/images/148-1-1321243716.jpg

Bethesda is actually adding new content in the patches!? This seems like a first for them... I sure didn't see anything like this for Oblivion or Fallout 3. I like that they're fixing graphical issues (these are the kinds of things unofficial patches cannot solve easily). And perhaps adding shadows on grass support means that in the future the blocky shadows problem might get addressed. I'm a very happy Skyrim player right now :)

I don't see any shadows on grass. They're meant to be enabled automatically without any .ini changes, so what's up with that?

See how the grass in the shadow is darker than the grass in the light? That's it.

See this thread for Shadows Screenshots

You will only see shadows on the grass where other things cast shadows. This is not for grass itself to cast shadows.

I think the word is implementing, not adding.

Bethesda guys monitoring this: since you've added Lydia as a marriage choice in this patch, but by now most of us are far into our campaigns and probably married someone else, it would be really great if you could add in a "Divorce" function. Many would have chosen Lydia early on but didn't have that choice. Now that she's "on the market" let us divorce our current wives and go back to our "first love!" ;)

There is a divorce mod on the workshop mate. It's simple and works a treat ;)
