Changing your appearance in Skyrim - *possible* XboxPS3 solu

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 4:58 pm

Hello, first time posting here, purely to share this little discovery.

I’m not sure many people are aware of it, but I scoured the internet for quite some time before discovering this method of changing your characters appearance. It was originally posted by an Xbox user who discovered it whilst playing (and seemed adamant that it worked for him), but wasn’t sure if it’d work on the PS3 – so I tried the method:

1: Have a game save of your character (it’s not an instruction really, but I did try it with a brand new character fresh out of Helgen as a test, and it didn’t work).

2: Load up the first save file for that character – this should be right at the beginning of the game when you get off the cart, just prior to the character creation screen.

3: Choose the same race, weight, gender and work from the same preset you originally created your character from (he specified this, I’ve not tried it any other way and was lucky enough to remember mine).

4: Design your character.

5: DON’T ‘finish and name’ your character. What I did was pause, got rid of the little dialogue box that pops up (something telling you about your quest journal I think) unpause, then pause again. I don’t know if this makes a difference or not, probably not.

6: From there, load up your latest save and you *should* see your newly designed character.

It worked for me, but here comes the frustrating part – I’m not sure about the Xbox version, but on the PS3 I find that as soon as I restart the game and go to my latest save (which I’d saved my new looks on) they had reverted back to their original state. All that’s missing is a way to get the game to permanently recognise this as your new face. So not quite a solution, but I think this could be a promising start to finding one nonetheless.

So I look to you, fellow Skyrimers, if we could find a solution between us, different save methods, fast-travelling, wearing various items, whatever it may be – I’m sure a lot of people would appreciate it!

Cool.

Much better if the developers simply let us open up the console.

Pretty sure this has already been explored, neighbor.

No one found a way for the new appearance to 'stick'

I completely agree, but I doubt that'll happen for a while, if at all!

Mm, there was a topic not that long ago, last week maybe, about this glitch.

No answers from what I remember.

Does anyone think that Bethesda will give those of us on the console versions the opportunity to change our appearances in a future update? Because I'm considering starting again :pinch:

That's a shame. I can't help but think it wouldn't be a huge effort on their part, given how easy it is for PC users. Ah well, restart it is!
