Character backstorys, you got one?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:49 am

Now that ive been playing skyrim since midnight on launch I have found that the game is made a lot more interesting if you write a backstorys for your character I was wondering does anyone else do this or is it just me?

For example this is my newest characters backstory.
Odin was born To high kIng Torygg and Elisif the fair but was kidnapped and presumed dead in a wagon ambush on a trip to cyrodill when he was only 9 and was taken by his kidnappers to elsweyr after ten years of being a slave he escaped, killing his captors. Washed up and thought dead by all of tamriel he spent the next 5 years in cyrodill As a mercenary for hire until a job went horribly wrong and he became wanted by a very high ranking bandit captain it was then that he decided it was time to head home back to skyrim but was caught crossing the border and put to execution and well you know the rest

I don't RP and still find much enjoyment in Skyrim and other Beth games. I like exploring and doing misc quests. (my logs are empty)

Many people within the community RP, I don't as I don't find pretending to be very fun.

I usually do. Got used to it when my DM made it a requirement to play his D&D campaigns.

Funnily enough, they end up being ff. :touched:

For a while I wasn't. I was just trying to get through the quest but now that I know more of how the world is I have been making back stories for my characters. They are pretty generic as far as lore goes but I really do not want to scroll through a bunch of websites to create a true story. I feel my ignorance is bliss.

My Dunmer served served the tribunal as an Ordinator. For over a hundred years he was a fanatic servant of these false gods. When the Nerevarine revealed the truth he lost his purpose in life. When Vvardenfell was destroyed he lost all that was dear to him. He found new meaning in serving Daedra lords, he became a tool in their twisted games. Eventually he could no longer take the senseless violence and sadistic tasks he had to partake in. He is now constantly on the run from their influence. Yet even in a backwater place such as Skyrim their influence is strong. Sometimes he can't help but do their bidding.

In the Dark Brotherhood he found a means to oppose them. By serving Sithis he is one with the void, and in this emptiness even the Daedras have no control over him. The only thing he has to do to remain free is perform tasks for the night mother. He is currently studying Oblivion and Daedra artifacts to find a way to free himself from their influence permenantly.

I plan on having him come in contact with the vampires and have his plans backfire as he becomes more and more a servant of the Daedras.

My Breton is the great-great-great granddaughter of the Champion of Cyrodiil (whose twin brother was the Nerevarine). World ending trouble seems to be hereditary.

Jorune was born in a mountain village between Bruma and Skyrims southern border only 5 years after the Great War had ended. His father was a former Blade and had fought in the Great War from the beginning to the end, and then fought it afterwards behind the scenes. Jorune's father had taught him how to be a warrior since he was old enough to walk, and Jorune soon became a master hand to hand and melee fighter, both with blade and fists, with or without. His grandfather had taught him to be a warsmith as well, making armor and weapons as well as improving them. He killed his first man, a bandit, when he was only 15 summers old while out hunting. It wasent long before the group the bandit had belonged too had captured Jorunes older sister as payback for killing the groups only mage. His father gave him the sword he used when he was a Blade and a soldier, a sword that had killed hundreds of Thalmor and was said to freeze the flesh from a mans bones. Jorune then tracked down the bandits, rescued his sister, and made sure none of the bandits lived to harm anyone else again. After the long trek back home with his sister, he told his father he planned to be an adventurer; hunting bandits and those that would stop lives from being lived. His father told him to keep his sword, and never to use it for his own gain or draw it out of anger. Jorune then set out for Skyrim, the homeland of his people where a civil war was being waged by men and women who couldnt see too far in the future, not willing to see the repercussions of their actions. One way or another, he'd bring peace to his homeland or die trying.

Not much to tell.

A mercenary from High Rock who became a vampire and wandered Nirn ever since. After so many years that's all he can remember. He also happens to find himself at the centre of various prophecies

because the player basically has no skills when you start, my characters have unimportant backrounds...my new one is a redguard named Rakiem, I used live another life mod to have him start out camping in the woods in falkreath hold...so his backstory is that he was just a regular guy from hammerfell, maybe Elihnor, who came home to find his wife in his bed with another man, in a fit of rage he beat the man to death with a wooden stool and so now he is wanted for questioning by the town guard...He feels that he has nothing left in his town and he does'nt want to go to jail so he successfully crossed the border into falkreath hold...He avoided the town of Falkreath because of its proximity to Elihnor and made his way to Whiterun...He has had a turn of luck in that the companions have accepted him as a new member...He is already gaining much experience with the sword and the bow...and has began to dabble in the arts of illusion magic........................I plan on taking this character through the companions (which is the only guild questline I havent done yet) and then he will join the Dawnguard

Skyrim kind of svcks for "Backstories" Because of its content design. There's not enough broadly appealing content to really roleplay the same way as Morrowind, Oblivion and even Fallout 3.

It's possible, but it's a lot harder to suspend the disbelief when you're being forced to turn into a werewolf just to do some mercenary work, or being forced to stop the end of the world because you wanted to learn expert level magic spells. Then there's the whole Dragonborn thing. I would have appreciated a little more delay in introducing the fact that the player is Dragonborn until a bit later in the story, similar how there is no real acknowledgement of the PC being the Neravarine in Morrowind until quite late. Basically, the best time would be a Little after you retrieve the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. While I'm not suggesting the player be unable to shout, at least the Dragonborn acknowledgement being delayed by such time, could be fit into a backstory of the PC simply learning (With unrivaled speed, but whatever) the Thu'um from the Greybeards.

On top of that rather petty issue, there's also the fact that, if you "Opt out" of Dragonborn status, you never get to fight any Dragons, and you also have to ignore a large Narrative push towards said content, though the narrative push is handled much better in Skyrim than Oblivion.

Tynon, Nord Crusader.

Born in a Nord/Breton family in Daggerfall. His father(Breton) was a court mage and his mother(Nord) was an ex-legionnaire. He was trained in some magic and combat and when he came of age he started to go on adventures. Some time later he developed a name as a mercenary and was hired by a nobleman to guard a caravan.

Turned out the caravan was carrying large amounts of skooma and moon sugar ad the authorities found out about it. Tynon escaped the soldiers, but is now hunted by the noble. He went to Cyrodiil to avoid the thugs and assassins, but after a while he decided to travel to Skyrim.

All I know is that every character of mine has obviously been the most unlikable person in their neighborhood. No friends, no family. I have to assume they're all awful, awful people (like the Belgians).

My short back story. Vampire since oblivion and is now in skyrim. Its a continuation since I'm immortal.

Usually my choices are my own in real life too. I always think "what would I do" so my character is me and also looks like me too.

Name - Bilal
Race - Imperial/Lycanthrope
Age - Unknown
Born - Unknown/Miscarcand, Cyrodil

Bio - Bilal's biological parents lived in a small cottage just west of the Ayleid Ruin known as Miscarcand. One night when Bilal was just a babe, the cottage was attacked by mysterious wolf like creature. The creature killed Bilal's father right away, but the mother managed to escape and flee with him running through the wilderness towards the Ruin. The mysterious creature let out a loud howl and took after the woman and her babe with the fresh taste of blood on its tongue. It only took a few moments for the creature to catch up with the woman and begin ripping her to shreds, also leaving several scars on the baby's face. Having had its fill from eating both the parents the creature left the scene (later found out to be a werewolf). The baby lay there crying just outside of Miscarcand. However the ruling Lich King heard the babies cries and sent its minions to investigate. The skeletal warriors grabbed Bilal with their icy stone like fingers and carried him away to the Lich King. The Lich King then decided to allow Bilal to live, training him in all manners of magic and having to keep him locked away during the full moons for Bilal would turn into an enraged wild beast that could not be controlled no matter how hard the Lich King tried. The Lich King had a plan to use Bilal's body to regain life, as Bilal later found out while reading in some of the texts found in the Lich Kings throne room. Once Bilal learned of this he knew that he had to get out of their and as soon as possible. Bilal had decided he would escape during the next full moon, so he stole a key that could open the dungeon that he would normally be locked in to keep him caged. As soon as the next full moon came Bilal was placed back in the dungeon, but he secretly unlocked the doors so that after he transformed he could escape his cell. At first all the Lich King could hear was the Howls echoing through out his ruin, but then he started to hear sounds unfamiliar to him, the sounds of bones crunching, zombie flesh ripping, insidious growling. It was already to late for by the time the Lich King knew what had happened, Bilal had already lept from the shadows and began tearing the Lich King apart. Bilal then left the ruins and took off into the forest wanting nothing more than to tear something else apart and fill his appetite for flesh.

I made a new profile just for skyrim . And i started an Argonian who traveled to Skyrim seeking to join the Stormcloaks to free Skyrim from the unjust Empire , but i see their reasons for wanting Skyrim to stay with the Empire. If the Thalmor attack we are more unifed. But if Skyrim is freed they will want to help the Empire more. And before I went to Windhelm to join the Stormcloaks I went to Riften to visit my relitive Madesi. Then I pickpocketed people. I mean a lot of people.

My backstroy is one of cleanliness, I make sure to take baths everyday in the river and use only the most luxurious scented soaps of imported lavender and Telvanni bug musk.
