Character Trouble

Post » Sun Apr 03, 2011 1:24 pm

Is anyone else having trouble deciding what kind of character your going to make? One minute I want unarmed then energy weapons. One minute sneak then no sneak. Then Charisma barter and speech vs not/ lots of guns. NCR then House then Caesar's Legion, back to NCR, Caesar's Legion, then House, back to Caesar's Legion.

:P- post what you want your character to be like.

Nope, No trouble. I have him all planned out.
Italian/Irishman named Leo Vazzi. He is going to be a Survivalist sniper, who takes occasional hitman/assassination jobs from the NCR. Lives in the wastes with his dog Rex, hunts his own food, picks his own herbs, crafts his own specialty ammo, etc. Makes the occasional trip, with Rex, to the nearest outpost/settlement and to the NCR camps and headquarters for resupplying and rearming.

I am not going to worry about my first character.

Just cobble together something close to my typical good looking sweet talking gun slinger (as it is just like me, other than the gun thing) and go out and experience the game.

Once I have done the MQ or enough of the game, then I will fret over my next character.

It's tough. My ideal character is a smooth-talking, laser rifle-packing cowboy-type, but thanks to a mod I'm working on at the moment, playing a field medic-type character has become my new obsession (hopefully NV will have plenty of Medicine skill checks!).
I also wouldn't mind trying out a low-Intelligence, possibly tribal character, too.

Thankfully with all the ways to end the game, there'll be plenty of chances to try out new characters! :D

I always just wing it. Usually I just tag Guns, energy weapons and will tag Survival for hardcoe mode.

I'm gonna tag Speech, Energy Weapons and Repair.

I usually try to max Speech and non combat-related stuff like Barter over combat skills.

Well, first I'm going to try to find a good white cowboy hat (good guys always wear white in the westerns, you know...usually). Then I'm gonna wander around and kill all the bad guys I find while trying to figure out who the "good guys" are, or the closest reasonable representation thereof. As far as skills and weapons go, I like sniping...a lot, so I'm guessing Guns. The other two tag skills will likely be Speech and Survival (or medicine). I'll be going for the Comprehension perk as soon as possible, and will also go for the Cowboy perk.

i am conflicted between 4 characters. which should i do first

2- a "man with no name" style cowboy drifter
3- A gambler trying to fight his addiction to jet
4-a smooth talking Mercenary who works for the highest bidder

Dunno what weapons will be available early on. Could stumble across a unique tire iron during a random encounter and end up concentrating on melee, or find a banged up but modified 10mm and like the sound it makes so much I'll go all SG-tastic. Who knows? Who can plan? Heh ha.

Not so much trouble as how to work around the new skill and perk limitations and still manage to create a character that suits my playstyle. Since I don't use companions (yeah, new command wheel and perks and whatnot is nice, still going to pass) and I play high damage, low health glass cannon type characters, I rely on ingenuity and flexibility to survive.

Sneak
Guns -or- Energy Weapons
Repair
Lockpick
Science
Explosives
-and now
Survival

From what I understand we will only be able to get a couple of these skills to max, and just a couple more to passable, which leaves me in a bit of a lurch.

That's seven skills that I am going to have to try and somehow manage. I think my first playthrough is going to be a deathfest. Not really complaining, just not interested in playing a Power Armor wearing, squad leading juggernaut, I've tried it, it's very uninteresting and boring for me personally.

I imagine what I will do is make a few test run characters until I find a balance of skills I can live with and run it through vanilla once, then mod the hell out of the game to get it to where I want it to be for me.

takes occaional hitman/assassination jobs? When did you find this out?

If anything the Omerta's are were you will probably get your hitman/assassination jobs that are hopefully in the game.

I'm going with gambler first. I'll probably be a hardcoe cowboy next. But if you really like Noir and detectives (like I do) you need to look into L. A. Noire. That game looks amazing.

A mod that puts in a V.A.T.S. "Operation" style mini-game that's performed on followers and the player when administering meds/stimpacks? I hope the bread baskets easier to fix in your mod than the Milton Bradley game.
