Choosing Classic RPGS...

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 5:55 pm

Hey all! I'm trying to decide between getting Icewind Dale 2, Arcanum, and Baldur's Gate 2. What do you think?
I haven't played the original Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate. I'm not at all familiar with DnD rules and I feel like those two games are too far back of a jump.

Which one of these is the most accessable? I'm looking for the game that has the best character customization (stats/dialogue) and a rich world to explore.

Thanks!

I voted Baldurs Gate 2. Really, they're all worth a try. This is just one I like in particular.

I also recommend Fallout or Fallout 2. Both are fantastic.

Edit: The DnD rules may seem a little complicated at first, but within a day or two you'll have pretty much everything down.

I voted Arcanum, cause I don't like DnD rules all that much, and I think the combat system is better.

You really can't go wrong here but I'd recommend either Baldur's Gate II or Arcanum.

Arcanum is my choice, absolutely awesome game. I tried to play Baldur's Gate and the DnD rules threw me off, and seemed overly complicated. Arcanum is just fantastic all around, easily one of my favorite RPGs.

Both BG2 and Arcanum are absolutely excellent, but based upon what you said you're looking for I'd recommend Arcanum. If you aren't familiar with AD&D rules then BG2 can be pretty brutal, while Arcanum is quite a bit easier to get into. Arcanum also has some of the most robust and varied character generation of any game out there, as well as a large, open world to explore with lots of fun things to discover. Basically it matches what you say you're looking for pretty much perfectly.

BG2 is nice, but Arcanum is amazing!

This is what I think as well. If you go for BG II, be sure to play or at least read about BG I for the full story.
