Choppy/crashing with GTX 470

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 4:00 pm

So I've been playing for about 6 hours and the game randomly gets choppy (low FPS), especially around people/enemies. Also this sometimes leads to freezing or crashing, even when it didn't seem choppy.

I am running a GTX 470 OC and i7 920 OC. I have no problem what so ever with Starcraft, Bad Company 2, etc.

Is this just bug I am going to have to deal with till they release a patch? Or is anyone else having these problems with similar hardware?

Thanks in advance.

I am having similar problems. Random crashes and some slowdown. All random. I am running quad core and 285 gtx and no matter what quality i run the game at it is always the same. Probably gonna have to wait till it gets patched in the next couple months. :(

Patch is gonna come from NVIDIA in the form of a new driver, don't expect anything from Bethesda.

I ran into an issue with this in FO3. Try an earlier nvidia driver for your card. The latest driver made FO3 very choppy for me.

Try this version of the driver 180.43

They only have one driver back on the 400 series and it's like 280. Plus I don't get why they would make the game for 3 year ago specs.

We are waiting on a driver update from Nvidia it seems, this issue and white dots are known issues with their recent drivers.
Did you try the DX9 DLL fix?
Worked for me (7-64/GTX460) and many others, try a search for the thread or head http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34778 for the file.
This only applies to Vista/7, will not help XP.

Good luck :)

It also only applies to Geforces, TTBOMK.

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34778. There are a ton of threads like this running around the forums here. Next time you might want to search the existing threads for similar problems before starting another thread like this. Hope this helps. BTW: I also have a GTX 470 and this solved my NPC slowdown. Not a perfect solution, but it works.

EDIT: someone else already posted the fix.

I've seen people reporting improvements AND detriments with it. It's worth a try.
