I recently blowed some air into one of my laptops vents, and a ton of dust came out the other vents. So I figured I need to clean it out a bit.
I've heard you're supposed to buy some kind of canned air thingey to do this and so I went to get some at a local tech store.
But when I came home I looked at the thing and it appears to be some kind of gas and the can really doesn't really say anything about how to use it or what to use it for, but pictures only show it being used for cleaning keyboards. A warning text also tells me to not spray anything for too long.
The stuff smells kind of strange and is slightly cool.

So, is this stuff ok to use to clean the insides of my laptop? Or should I get something else?

1. Canned air isn't normal air, but various gases.

2. Canned air should always be used at as level of an angle as possible to keep any bits of liquid from coming out

3. Never use a can of canned air upside down. (exception to this rule is made when having fun spraying people in the back and stuff )

4. short bursts are best as it reduces the chance of liquid coming out and keeps the can from getting cold as fast (which is the result of producing the air).

5. If you see like a white cloud spray out of the can, stop, leave the can alone for a while for it to heat up, and try again with it level.

Also, as for general cleaning advice, you'll be able to do a lot better of a job if you are able to get the bottom of your laptop to come off.

Ok, sounds promising. But after looking a lot closer I found a line on the can that read "For cleaning exteriors of computers" so I think this one's a no go. I'll go back tomorrow and ask them if they have anything else.

If it's past the warranty period, try opening it carefully. Did that with mine, found lump of dust next to the heat censors, got it out with a toothpick and all was well Don't try to clean the fan unless you really have to - if you don't clean it evenly it may start making weird sounds and get messed up.
