Clothes Only?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:37 am

So I'm thinking about making an assassin char and was thinking from a RP point of view wearing just clothes would fit better for blending in and all. So I was wondering if you guys have done a clothes only build and how it works out.

when i'm not adventuring i wear "tavern cloths" there pretty normal, not to rich looking, not to poor looking. I've not done a cloths only build before but it would be interesting.

Do you plan on using alteration spells?

Hooded Monk Robes, available at a Talos Shrine close to where you exit Helgen look awesome for Assassin’s, kinda like Assassin’s Creed look.... and Tavern Clothes are uber hot on female asassins...

If you invest in Mage Armor you can get 350 armor with the right standing stone...

I actually think the Thalmor robes look sweet for an assassin, too bad the robes are already enchanted..

Yea the lord stone i think not sure though. But really 300-350 is plenty in Skyrim. I wisk elder scrolls games had a respec on consoles just for when sweeet stuff comes out in the dlcs.

Ive tried something like this. It was an assassin build, using daggers, some sneak, and illusion. Using sneak and illusion, i was able to deal with most enemies fairly well, one trick being to use calm against an enemy, then circling around and sneak attack him/her. The big problem i ran into was because i had no armor at all (didnt use alteration in this case), dragons would instantly kill me with their bite attacks (the kill cam of myself getting eaten as especially common).

I think i may give it another try, this time with alteration for mage armor.

This makes sense. After all, how comes nobody notices those kinky leather threads once a DB member walks into a city to complete a contract? :P

I've done clothes only. It's survivable on Adept (my preferred difficulty). I don't even have to use mage armor or any standing stones. I just defend myself with Become Ethereal, Healing Spells, occasionally wards, and Stagger.

With that... it's doable.

Ultimately you will have to enchant them, though.

I planned on enchanting it seems like you almost have to.

This actually worked a little better in Oblivion. I used to enchant my clothing with shield spells which made them superior to most armors, especially since they didn't get damaged. No such effects in Skyrim as far as I know. But you can take that one alteration perk that makes your shield spells more effective if you're not wearing any armor.

My most recent character was a clothes-only mage on Master and did fairly well, but enemy Archers were brutal and two at once firing from ambush ended up killing her. I relied rather heavily on Illusion and Impact abuse, which some folks consider cheesy, but then I wasn't using Alteration's armor spells. An Assassin spec will probably not have Impact available, but then you probably won't need it since most opponents will die in one hit anyway.

I did this in Oblivion last year. I played a melee warrior in clothes. It was very interesting, and I plan to try it again in Skyrim. I had to stay focused during combat, stay on my toes. Fights either went well or they went very, very wrong. Fights could go wrong very quickly. If you're looking for adrenaline-rush combat, fighting in clothes is one way to do it. ;)

My current assasin character uses fur/forsworn armour with no power level lamelness and it is by far the best character ive used so far.

Have to plan fights intelligently.

My pure mage finished the game with the party clothes from "Diplomatic Immunity", dual enchanted with dest & rest + regen.

My current Vampire has a ton of unenchanted robes & clothes waiting until his enchanting is high enough. I think it looks way cooler than armour.

I have a assassin character who uses clothes, Illusion, Alteration, Conjuration, sneak and onehanded.
He only uses summoned weapons and it is the most fun character i have. (also the most chalenging)

One of my favorite characters was a Redguard Al'akir warrior. I wore enchanted Redguard clothes/hood/boots and dual-wielded scimitars. With Mage Armor this was a fun character to play.

One of my characters is a rogue type wearing clothes, but utilizes Light bracers/boots. I've never used just clothing.
Enemy archers must be dealt with swiftly as flesh makes a poor pincushion, but other foes can be handled on your own terms through stealth/dodge/magic.

My clothing choices for the rogue: Alik'r Hood with Mourner's Clothes
His preferred bracers/boots to go with the clothes are either Linwe's, TG's or self-enchanted scaled.

It's quite easy to sneak in clothes only. Definitely possible build, have done it many times. In fact, my fully armored melee fighter has a harder time killing guys than my clothing-using assassin.
