COC and Dark Brotherhood Canon?

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 2:13 pm

This has probably been brought up many times, but when the player meets Sheogorath, he makes several references to Oblivion questlines. The main quest, the Thieve's Guild, SI, and the Dark Brotherhood. The reference to the DB is, of course, a severed head. The severed head isn't encountered until near the end of that specific questline. Does anybody else think that this indicates that the COC was, at one point, in the DB?

Yes and No.

Sheogorath is crazy. You should never believe what he says. Except when you should. Daedric princes know a lot.

I think lore wise the COC and the Dovahkiin and the previous heros did all they could in one playthrough, so yes, that would mean the DB

Well the Oblivion Hero (That Sheo) did experience the Main Quest and the SI. And if he did become a 'Grey-Fox' then his original name would be lost, and he'd likely give it to another. Or maybe he's just saying stuff.

The thing is that hero kinda made a somewhat of a 'dragon break' within the SI - as it happens when the Champions become the new Sheo. All possible outcomes within the Isles they may have taken go into one defined reality.

So we know that. However whether or not this Sheo was both apart of the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild is up to debate. I honestly think it's a tease to Skyrim players coming from Oblivion. There isn't much to it and I don't believe that mini-dragon break could extend into Nirn. Plus Martin's Apotheosis didn't seem to Break The Dragon. Unless it did. If it did...well Beth has forgotten what breaks the Dragon then :U

But, thing is - the Dovahkiin can choose between two quests in the Skyrim DB questline: To destroy it, or to join it.

I of course destroyed it.

The original name wouldn't be lost. When the CoC gets the grey cowl, the "name struck from history" aspect of the curse on Nocturnal's cowl is no longer present. By that point, The Cowl only causes the lesser effect of preventing people from noticing the identity of someone currently wearing it.

Unfortunate. However, it could just be a ramble of noticing the Grey-Fox posters rather than actually joining the guild. But for now - random dialogue from Sheogorath that may or may not be connected to his previous life besides Butterflies as well as knowing Martin Septim.

We know that Sheogorath is the individual who walked through that door in the Niben and mantled the Madgod. We don't know if that person is the same as who stopped Mehrunes Dagon or cleansed the Dark Brotherhood or stole the Elder Scroll. We can suspect and wonder, but there is no certainty.

i think it was just a shout out for oblivion players, that said someone had to do all the questlines in oblivion, and the only person who can do them in-game is the coc (that prisoner you play as)

However if your "canon" character didn't do them, well i guess someone in your "canon" did do them.

All quests happen, who does them is left entirely up to you to decide. It can go either way, and it doesn't really matter.

Like in Skyrim, regardless of your choice with the DB the same members will die and the Emperor will die. [censored] happens. Sheogorath is a Daedric prince, and not any normal stupid Daedra. So don't pay take everything he says to literal and don't always use the easiest interpetation it might be rigth but it could also be wrong, you just never know with him.

Its just a matter of referencing. If you catch the reference, its likely you did the quest, so your CoC did do those things, and Sheo is you from Oblivion. If you don't catch the reference, you obviously missed the quest, so your CoC obviously didn't do those things, and Sheo is just rambling nonsense like he always does.

Or someone else mantled good old Sheogorath.

It was an invasion of the Imperial City by Dremora. There would have been severed heads everywhere. So it just depends on your playthrough.
