COC Marker Trouble

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 5:51 am

Hello,

I'm new to the creation kit and after watching the video tutorials I thought I'd have a bash at making a level.

Now, I'm halfway through basically mapping out my cell and thought I'd like to jump in and see what it feels like to walk through.

I've placed a COC Marker Heading in the cell and have managed to launch something via the console 'coc cellname' command.
Incidently, this did not work at first.

Now whenever I use the 'coc cellname' command it loads me into a light blue empty space where my character is endlessly falling. There is no level in sight.

Am I using the coc marker heading incorrectly? Is there anything I need to do to it other than place it in the cell?

I just cannot figure it out, and thought it would be straight forward. I now find myself obsessing over it.

Many thanks for any advice.

P.S. Sorry if I have missed an existing thread, my searches only threw up explanations of the 'coc cellname' command.

Are you sure you only have 1 COC marker? I've heard that some bugs may occur when there are two or more.

Other than that I'm not sure what to say. It seems that the commands teleports you into the void (the space in which you create your levels).

Thanks very much for the swift response Universal.
I solved it. It was extremely alarming.
I had renamed my cell's .esp file and saved it as a new .esp file. I then deleted the old file. In doing so I had unwittingly deleted all the content in the cell, except for the coc marker.
However, the Creation Kit had not updated and so was still displaying all the content of the cell...until I restarted the program. At which point I found the empty cell.
This is obviously why my character had been spawning in a void. There wasn't anything actually there.
I restored the earlier file from the recycle bin and all the progress had been saved to that .esp instead.

I still have no idea how all the cell's content got deleted or why Creation Kit was still displaying the cell but it is sorted now and the level starts where I placed the coc marker.

Sorry to waste everyone's time. Hopefully if someone else does this they can seen this thread.

I once "deleted" part of my interior because of how I saved. I had my .esp file, say mod.esp, checked as active, so I unchecked it and checked only as loaded. Then I made some changes and saved it as a new file. The problem was that my new file, mod1.1.esp, was only based on my original file. But it didn't have any objects that mod.esp had. I would have to load both of them in order to get them to work, or merge them (don't know how to do this).

Actually that sounds exactly what happened to me. I got around it in the end by taking the original .esp file and (with creation kit closed) renamed it manually.
