[REQ] Collaboration between Arwen and XFO

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 11:21 am

XFO & Arwen,

Your mods came together so nicely under FWE ... any chance you guys can collaborate an release a unified mod or at least a FOIP-like merge?

Thanks!!

I am under the impression that Fallout courier's edition is in the works already.

From what I've seen both mods alter pretty much the same stuff, only in a different way. What's the point of combining them?

I think you are bit confused on what happened in FO3, XFO was on the scene but due to personal reasons have diminished his updates and care of the mod. Mez took up on the majority of changes and added a whole lot of more and engaged a community in great collaboration that became FOIP. Arwen came only much latter when FWE and FOOK were already top dogs.

I'd love to see FC(ourier)E in NV as FWE was without shadow of a doubt my mod of choice in FO3

Could be. I didn't start paying attention to FWE till it was already at version 4 or something. I had played through FO3 once without any mods at all, since I got it the day it came out.... and decided to replay through it again a year later, heavily modded - FWE, EVE, WMK, MMM, etc.

What kinda kills me is reading the NV boards and watching at least 4 or 5 different modders all trying to do roughly the same thing... while I understand the desire to create and get your stuff out there, I can't help but feel like so much more could get done if all these guys working on re-balancing could get together...

The thing is that everyone has a different vision of how things should be done. Arwen's Realism Tweaks for FO3 is very different from FWE, even if there are a large number of settings that both mods change.

Re-balancing is an area where one size most definitely does NOT fit all.

Users have different expectations and desires... that's why there are multiple balance mods. Not everyone likes what Mod1 does, but they might like Mod2. Etc.

this right has been why I have had a harder time thinking about what I want to do next. I want to do a damage overhaul but at the same time I see others trying to do the same thing. I wish I knew what is going on with FCE so I could maybe help with that project instead rather than make another overhaul that does the same basic things as everyone else...

While it would be ideal to gather the great minds of modding like Arwen, Mez, and XFO and have them work together to create one great overhaul, as stated, everyone has different tastes. Therefore, to counter possible tensions and provide better and more choices to the mod user, I say it's actually better to have them all work separately and do their own thing. That way, the mod creator has more freedom to make what they want, and the user has many choices to choose from instead of picking from one singular mod that could have some things they don't like. Everyone's happy.

And for those who really must have EVERYTHING OVERHAUL in their game, I'm sure once enough overhaul mods are made, we'll be getting an FCOM of FOIP type mod system that combines them all together in how the user chooses. ;)

Yes this might all take awhile to blossom, but once it does, it will be so much worth the wait.

o.O
If FCE is going to emerge then id prefer to assist with that than continue my own overhaul. Unless continuing with my own overhaul assists with FCE in some way.

edit: I suppose Rahu X has a good point.

Only one piece of my mod was used in FWE . . . a very early version of what was then my Smarter AI module. My Realism Tweaks are VERY different from FWE . . . if you don't believe me, try playing the FO3 with FWE, and then try it with my Full Realism Tweaks . . . your gameplay will be very different in many, many ways . . . which is a good thing, as having two very different overhauls expands the game play for everyone who uses overhaul mods.

I personally cannot possibly take on another project right now. I'm currently adding all my NVSE scripts to my Realism Core, which will finally complete my main module; working on my other 3 modules for my NV Realism Tweaks; and getting version 5.2 of my FO3 Realism Tweaks ready for release. My plate is VERY full.
