Come Fly With Me (QUEST ERROR)

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 11:26 pm

Here it is:
I kill all the Nightkin and report back to J.Bright. Watched everyone walk down to the basemant, I have just cleared out, and attempt to talk to J.Bright in the control room that overlooks the launch pad. FAIL!
THE PROBLEM: I had already gone into that room before I went up stairs to report back to J.Bright. So now the door opening that is meant to trigger the J.Bright dialog about parts missing doesn't trigger, it is already opened and all I have is a ghoul walking around that is looking at the “control panel" in the control room. There is no J.Bright waiting for me, as I found out there should be after I searched on youtube after I spent 30mins recheck the basemant for an entry point down to J.Bright as the game directs me.
The J.Bright ‘parts missing’ dialog was not triggered by opening the door to the control room overlooking the irradiated. This never happens as the door was already opened by me before I reported back to J.Bright.
The hatch that is marked on the local map as access to the ‘lower basemant’ is not useable. I have nothing saying "Go down to basemant" or something like that. There is nothing allowing me to close the door and reopen it.

So there is no J.Bright, there is no access to the man hole to the lower levels and there is now no way to finish the quest.
17 hrs of game play and now I have to start again to get past this point in the game and continue.
I have a sick feeling that this will not be addressed in the coming patch. I will come back and let you all know if it has been.

Sorry, I'm a bit slow, the hatch you mentioned that wasnt accessible, is that the one you reach from OUTSIDE the building when you fast travel there? Where you aim left and walk through that weird radioactive gas cloud and it's down a little valley thing?
That's such a rubbish time for the game to glitch out, I'm sorry. :(

I think it's a very buggy section of the game.

Hi thanks for the reply.
To answer your question, No. There are 2 hatchs. 1 does take you outside. (thats the one you discribed) The second takes you lower into the basemant. I can see it on the local map. I can see it with my eye in the game. It's the hatch to right in the 'control room' if your you have just walked in that room and you can see the viewing window that looks down onto the launch area.

So what is meant to happen is; you deal with the Nightkin (kill them or work things out with their leader). You then DONT go behind the Nightkin leared's desk and walk down the stairs and open the door to the 'control room'. Instead, go directly back to J.Bright and tell him it's all clear down in the basemant. Then go back to the Nightkin leaders room and open the door directly infornt of you as you enter that room, it's behind his desk. Then walk all the way down to the 'control room' and open the door for the first time. The dialog about parts missing will happen as J.Bright will be waiting there for you behind the door. UNLIKE WHAT HAPPEND TO ME :( Where I had already opened the door to the 'control room' that over looks the 'launch pad' area and the game will not let me access the hatch the takes you to the launch pad area. The quest does not bring up the clickable "Go to lower basemant" Or what ever the text should be that will allow me to get into the hatch and down to that launch area.

I hope that helps to really let other understand what has gone wrong. *cough* *Looks over at the Bethesda Programers*

:D

If your on PC tlc'ing your way on to the launch pad might work. Press the key just below esc and typ in tcl and then enter, now you can fly down there :P

Wait, I can't remember if it's tcl or tlc xD Just try both

////POTENTIAL SPOILER//////
sorry I dont know how to do that neat thing where people hide the spoilers like they do
So yeah, when I did this quest I'd allready gotten the 'items' the bald guy needed to fix the ships and assumed the random junk in my inventory would come in usefull one day,.
And when I went back there he immiediately jumped into his next bit of 'great now I can fix the ships' etc etc etc

Have you searched the upstairs thoroughly to make sure the guy isnt still standing in his office? I know sometimes NPCs wont move untill you've exhausted all of their conversational dialogue options which I'm sure must be a massive glitch.
If not, leave for a few fallout days and do something else, i've found that if you trigger an NPC leaving the place you met them and going somewhere else, it can take them awhile.
(c'mon, you remember how slow sunny smiles was in strolling from hidden valley back to the saloon!)

All very good pionts. But they are not the fix here. It's the door opening for the first time that triggers the dialog. I have looked around and tried all I could. I haven't tried to pick up all the parts I need andwalk back to the room. That might give me the fix.
Thanks. I will let you know how I go.
No I need a walk through :C I hate those things... I don't use them. But now seams like the best time to try.

It didn't work. Taking the parts they needed to the "control room" didn't get the quest any further. It looks like I will have to see if the "patch" address' this issue.

SOoo..... The PSN has been down for days. :C Think if it was FaceBook?
Anywhat, I am still awaiting the FONV Patch... And what are the chances that the PSN being down has added to the time it will take for thepatch to reach Australia? Much, I think.
Well If ANYONE has had this issue come agianst them and they know a work around on the PS3, THEN LET ME KNOW. I AM DYING HERE!!! It Hurts!!!...

Guess What? Yeah! The patch did not fix this for me :( Now you know what that means? Back to the start for me. Lots more "new save data" slots will be used. *Walks into room - NEW SAVE DATA* *Opens door - NEW SAVE DATA*
Can't risk this sort of thing in a game that can take upto 150+ Hrs to play and collect ALL Trophies.

If I understand what you're saying...you're not supposed to be able to go down the round, hatch like door in the floor that's to the left in that room. If you saw that in a video, they were likely using a no-clipping console command/cheat to get through walls or something.

Jason should just be standing in the room by that giant glass 'window' in the middle of the room (the one where you can look down & see the rockets), where you can just walk up to him. You're supposed to listen to him yap and then turn around & talk to Chris Haversam. Obviously, if Bright's not standing there, that's a stopper.

I've gone into that room first many times (I loot it before going back to talk to them upstairs) and he appears where/when he's supposed to, so I don't think going in there first is the specific trigger of him not appearing...just sounds like a random "disappearing npc" glitch.

And yes, don't rely on only one save slot/autosave. imo, that's true of any game, but especially this one. At least 4-6 saves, each 30min to an hour apart, can save you a lot of headache. :)

Thanks mate. I see your points. Yep this has not worked for me this time around. I am in the middle of moving house and I have shelved FNV for the past few weeks. But all said I will be keeping check on all the do's and don'ts of playing.
You discription is spot on. Thats to say J.Bright never was in the Control Room waiting for me. Guess a glitch is a glitch.
Thanks for your comment hep me to understand that this may just be a 1 time thing.

That I would have done but I had only 3 save files and by the time the damage had been done it was to late for me becuase I had cycle saved over any spot that would have saved me all this trouble.
I have 10 saves atm and I will have about hte same as you (30 files) I have only been playing now for 3 hrs and I find the game runs alot better. Can't wait to see what the next patch does for us :D
Thanks for your response.
Happy FNV!

Quick End
I have been playing now for about 15hrs on the new game run throught and I have past where I was with this glitch. I have found the game to run well but still it has a little lag in loading but I guess thats not to bad at all. So the game played nice for me and let me enjoy it's fruit some more.
I have 28 save files and I am cycling through them.
:D Love this game!!!

Yeah, get ME2 played and then play FNV. It's wicked. Make a bunch of saves and you really can't go wrong. Sure the game plays up on you every now and then BUT IT'S MASSIVE :D
36 hrs into it and had 2 crashes and thats all. :D I have had worse in just 8 hrs of play on other games. I really think thats what people are forgetting. This is not a game that you play for 16 hrs and your done. You in the game world for 150+ hrs and If you don't turn off your system and let all the bugs die you are going to have glitches and the like.
