Up coming DLC and the release date that never gets advertise

Post » Wed Jun 15, 2011 3:05 pm

Why is it huge money is spent on the game title release but rarely do you hear about the dlc unless you watch g4 all day. I cant even begin to wrap my head around the money that is made on each title and game companies in general dont seem to spend any on advertising the dlc relase dates. I would just for once like to see some of the money i spend on games go to a little more knowledge of dlc and when it is coming to market and why is it i can find more info on the games I live for on wiki than i can on the official website.

Because theres nothing official only rumors, you do realize issues arise patches don't get approved bugs are discovered thes can very easily cause a date to be missed and that looks bad its much better to not give a date until your certain. And of course the dlc isn't going to be advertised much it doesn't make as much money especially when Bethesda has other full games that its beginning to advertise for that again will pull in more money. DLC is a little thing on the side and is treated as such.

i am not complaing about bethesda and would gladly pay for any of thier releases. I just would like to see things change for the better for gamers. Iam sure they can afford it and I dont think that I am hurting thier feelings or yours dont reply if you like what i have to say. actually dont waste your time to even read it I would hate to have let you down in any way.

I don t want a date until they think its time to give a date.

If there is a big hold up like there was for HH I would like to know why.
In the case of HH they told us why, so I have no problem with how they conduct buisness.

Yeah, but they told us at the very end of our 6 and 1/2 month wait(shorter for the ps3 players).

Never the less, I am very glad they havnt givin a release date. It shows thatnthey are working on problems, and dont want to be rushed by having a dead line over there heads.I dont realy want fo3 dlc, where it comes out buggy as hell and gets fixed later(well, most of the bugs get fixed at least :verymad: ).

So take all the time you need obsidian, but if theres problems that extend release of owb to july, at least tell us whats up so we arnt squating in the dark with rumors up to our necks like we were pre HH.

A date? I think it'd better if the date is a surprise.

I'd love to just turn my console on one day and see an ad on the 360 dashboard for the next DLC (since they usually have one the week it comes out).Surprise DLC is infinitely better than surprise announcements.

The lack of advertising done for the DLC's IS kind of abnormal.
For a game in NV position of being right on the cusp of a household name for a video game, you'd think that they would concentrate more on advertising in an effort to push them over the edge. FO3's viral marketing campaign was a blast, I wonder why that kind of thing has been dropped.

No advertising? What kind of drugs are you on?

There is advertising everywhere for dlc content. It is even bigger once the game is released. With the advent of the internet and things like forums, gametrailers, gamefaqs, and the like the need for paid advertising online is limited. Why should Bethesda pay large amounts of money to advertise when they have people to advertise to them for free? Ever wonder how so many different websites post reviews, previews, developer interviews, and simply discuss the games? This in effect spreads the news around and they do not have to pay a cent.

Remember when the fake release date was spread by a unnamed website. That date got spread across the internet. It may have been wrong but it kept up the hype for the release. People are constantly asking about it which means people are interested in it.

As for advertising what about Qore and the Jace Hall Show? I think there are probably a few others as well. Not to mention they have the blog available when they need to announce pertinent information. The video previews from these two programs were immediately posted in fallout wiki. They know about the wiki and know that most other people know of it as well. So they can have them put the pertinent info on the site to save them money.

The reason dlc is not advertised as much as you may wish is that the only people that will buy the DLC are those who already own the game that the DLC is for. In this very affect there is no need to advertise to the public at large because most of the people wouldn't be able to even play the dlc without having the game it is part of. As far as games go the dlc is mainly for the people that buy game that the dlc is for. In this respect they usually find out the information on their own since they usually are the ones that want the dlc in the first place. If people did not buy the game the dlc is for then what is the point of advertising the two together? It's not like people's minds will change after seeing the previews for a less that 10 hour dlc.

the release date needs no advertising because it already has plenty of advertisemant. When it is announced it will be posted on the blog and then a bunch of other people will find the release and begin posting the announcement online. The lack of an early trailer can be easily explained by the two shows mentioned above which is essentially a trailer in itself along with a developer interview.

fallout is a PC oriented game and so most of the advertisemants can be found on the PC.

Sony and Microsoft are in charge of setting the advertising prices on PS3 and 360 and more than likely only take from the highest offer. Despite this a mention of releases are mentioned on the playstation/xbox live blogs. People who are interested in the dlc will be the ones to buy it and they will search for news on their own.

advertisemants also do exist in the form of trailers and the like a week before and after releases.
