Companies mud-slinging competitors.

Post » Sat Jul 02, 2011 8:52 pm

I do not know about you, but I am sick of seeing every company that has an enemy that endangers them trying to take them out of business. It just seems to me to be very unethical.
all types of companies did, or still do it.

I'm generally not a fan. If a company wants to look better than its competitors it's generally better to focus on its strengths than on its competitors' weaknesses; negative campaigns such as the "fear, uncertainty and doubt" approach really just have the "feel-bad factor" that doesn't exactly make me want to rush out and buy their products. "Our competition is crap! Crap, I tell you! But we might not be." How compelling.

EDIT: i do like to make threads on these types of subjects, yes. also, forgot to add the bacon portion: how do you fry/cook your bacon and/or serve it?

Trimmed of fat, cooked under a hot grill and served in a sandwich with tomato ketchup.

I've always been of the opinion that if your main selling point is to bad mouth your competitors. You see this a lot in politics too, but we can't go there. Then it's unlikely you have anything interesting to say. It's why I don't post on certain other forums.

I always thought the same thing. Then there is the propaganda that tv companies buy their own time slots on commercials to put on their own ads, and a couple of the competitor's ads to make it seem like they are being open minded. for every 10 dish network commercials, i may see one DirecTV commecial, but then it gets cut off halfway through by another Dish Network commercial.

I'm not sure what you mean (I mean, I know what you're trying to say, but the examples you listed seem like something out of an internet forum thread), but I don't see what is unethical about gaining an advantage over your competitor by saying that your product is better...if you can back it up.

Jackie Chan > Chuck Norris...wat?

Four out of five doctors recommend turning to Troyatz! Just listen to this real life customer account!

Janey Baker: My life changed drastically as soon as I chose Troyatz. I've never been happier! I have children, and I know it's important to think about them first in all the choices I make. Switching to Troyatz not only brought me closer to my children, it also provides long-lasting fun for the whole family!

I'm not fond of it and it sure isn't the way to sell me a product, quite the opposite, some companies lost me as a customer because of their arrogance. Be it Apple, Nvidia or whatever.

OMG, competition in business? Why can't all the companies be friends?

You can be in competition without using underhanded tactics.

You don't sling mud while playing football, that's just not cricket.

We very rarely watch TV these days due to the vast number of advert breaks, even compared to 10 years ago: even the expensive subscription channels are almost unwatchable, the only way is to record programmes in advance and fast-forward through them, though even that gets annoying.

It makes me feel old in that I can remember a time when some ads were actually really quite amusing (though admittedly most have always been dross) but you rarely seem to get that sort of thing any more, which is another reason I don't like the mud-slinging types and other nonsense that's supplanted them. Though these days it's almost wall-to-wall ambulance-chasers and boring insurance ads: funny how they say they don't have the money to spend on claims; maybe it's because they spend it all on advertising.

There is a glasses company in Australia called the Optical Superstore, All of their ads are about how "These glasses are 20$ cheaper than specsavers" "Look, we have specials, won't see them at specsavers"

Recently they had an ad which said "Specsavers has attempted to take the Optical Superstore to court, we are pleased to say we won!, and can continue to tell you our prices are better than specsavers" <_<

How about telling us why you are good rather than why you are better
