Good question... I just used the werewolf ability to my chars benefits. Since I'm not light armor skilled I just use it for the 100% immune to disease. I've never once had to turn on except the "tutorial." so no real disadvantages for me.

You can always just save right before, try it out, and I'd you don't like end results load up your save. At least till someone else answers...

if you dont want to be a werewolf, you cant continue with the companions. but you have the option to cure it later on if you dont like it.

you get 3 chances to cure yourself of being a werewolf.

it seems that you need to be a werewolf in order to get the Hircene's Staff quests from Alea.

The only real drawback is you can't the Well Rested benefit...but you can commit 'murders' as a werewolf without repercussions. :D

I became a werewolf, but never got the Hircine quests from Aela. Not sure why, but she'd only want me to get cats out of trees, or something. After the longest time playing, I realized that there was no advantage to being a werewolf, so I took back one of the extra Glenmoril witch heads that, ironically, I had Aela carry for me, and went and got myself cured.

I got Hircine's quest from the guy in Corpselight Farm, in Falkreath.
Or is this an entirely different quest?

Edit: it would appear so.

Yeah, there's apparently a bug (shocking!) wherein she keeps giving you Animal Extermination quests instead of advancing the quest line.
