Maybe I have not done enough quests for Vilkas or Farkas but the radiant quest Purify seems bugged big time.

I got all 3 pieces of Hircine's Totem for Aela the Huntress so thats out of the way.

Anyway Vilkas asked me to cure him. I have 4 heads of Glenmoril witches left. The quest starts but he won't follow me. Says I have a follower (him of course) but he won't follow me and the quest marker does not appear over the crypt Ysgramar's Tomb. I've made sure the quest is activated in my menu as current. If I map to Ysgramar, the quest goes instantly into my completed quest log but shows Vilkas was not cured. He is still labled as a follower and the only way I could remove him was to take a quest for Aela for the last totem piece cause it said I had no current started companion quests.

And Farkas won't even give me any jobs.

Would like to purify both the twins but can't seem to. I can keep re-activating the quest for Vilkas but every time I go there the quest goes into complete and he heads home. I got him inside by taking him as a follower but then he always gives me a different quest.

About to give up on these two and let them hunt with Hircine for all time and forever due to their stupidity at not coming along.

To avoid problems, do Farkas's purity quest first. If he won't give it to you, wait until he moves to a different area and try again.
